Defending champion Galatasaray won the opening game of the seventh match day in the Spor Toto Süper Lig against newly promoted BB Erzurumspor thanks to a header from center-back Maicon Roque.

The opening match of the seventh match day of the Spor Toto Süper Lig took place at the Türk Telekom Stadium between the last champion Galatasaray and league freshman Büyüksehir Belediye Erzurumspor. The home team finished narrowly 1-0 in Fatih Terim's 300th league game as coach of Galatasaray. With the victory, the lion raised his points in the league to 15 and took over at least temporarily again the championship lead in Turkey. Erzurumspor remains two with two points farther.

Emre Akbaba

The guests from Erzurum made a broken start and made in the initial phase amateurish mistakes in the construction game. The Blue-Whites, who fired head coach Mehmet Altiparmak during the last week, were very fortunate that these serious passport failures went unpunished. Galatasaray missed a number of opportunities through Garry Rodrigues and Emre Akbaba, who showed weaknesses at the end and failed at goalkeeper Ibrahim Sehic. To make matters worse, the Turkish champion then had to replace Akbaba before the half-time break due to injury. Fernando Reges took his place. After 45 minutes, it went with a 0-0 in to the locker room.

The redemptive opening goal for the home side came in the 74th minute. After a corner from Ömer Bayram headed Maicon Roque the ball at the near post into the goal and so marked the 1-0 for Galatasaray. The Brazilian had previously tryed a free-kick and failed by the goalkeeper. Rodrigues and substitute Henry Onyekuru had two more big chances in the closing stages. The final score was thus 1-0 for Galatasaray. On the eighth round of the Süper Lig will Galatasaray travel to Antalya. Erzurumspor receives home Aytemiz Alanyaspor. But before this Galatasaray will be guest at Porto in the Uefa Champions League match at wednesday.
