Turkey lost 0-1 to Sweden in the UEFA Nations League duel in Konya, which means that relegation from league B to league C can no longer be avoided.

Despite a good start, Turkey's lack of exploitation of opportunities once again broke its neck in sporting terms. Coach Mircea Lucescu's eleven lost 1-0 to Sweden in Konya, thus relegating them to League B in the UEFA Nations League. Next season, the Turkish side will therefore play in League C. With three points from four matches, Turkey are third and last in Group 2 of League B and can no longer catch Sweden (4) and Russia (7). Both opponents will play for group victory on Tuesday.

The Turkish team started very energetic and offensive. Cengiz Ünder (1.) had a chance in the first seconds, but Sweden's goalkeeper Robin Olsen was able to prevent an early deficit of the visitors. Ünder was it also, the team-mate Yunus Malli of the Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg with a beautiful pass into the lane well in scene set. But Malli (27.) showed weaknesses in the conclusion and shot the ball clearly past the goal. Shortly before the break once again a thick opportunity for the Turks. Hakan Calhanoglu (45th) pulled off hard and directly after Cenk Tosun's great header, but once again Sweden's goalkeeper Olsen was on the spot in a parade. The half-time break began with a goalless draw.

Sweden came better out of the dressing room and had a number of opportunities through Sebastian Larrson (50th), Albin Ekdal (51st) and Viktor Claesson (57th). Finally, after a foul in the Turkish penalty area, Sweden was awarded a penalty kick by Okay Yokuslu to Marcus Berg (70). Andreas Granqvist (71.) didn't miss the chance and converted to 1:0 for the Scandinavians. The Turkish goalkeeper Sinan Bolat had guessed the right corner, but was still powerless in the penalty shot. A short time later, substitute Filip Helander (73rd) had a dangerous header opportunity, but Bolat was able to fend it off with ease. Cengiz Ünder (74th) failed again in the direct counterattack against his team mate from AS Rome, Robin Olsen. The Turks did not want to succeed in the equalization. The match therefore ended 1-0 for Sweden.
