It is no longer news that the six-time Balon D'or winner is now a PSG player, having left Barcelona,a club he spent 21yrs of his life playing for; infact his name even became synonymous with Barca. It sent ripples of shock round the sporting world indeed.

Now PSG looks like a dizzying sight when you look at the plethora of stars there– Ramos,Neymar,Mbappe,Donnarumma,Verrati, name it. Donnarumma was voted the best player in the just concluded Euros, Messi too grabbed the best player award in the just concluded Copa America. Both players' side won their respective competition. Look at that! There are yet rumuors that Cristiano Ronaldo will be signed if Mbappe leaves for PSG this month. This is plausible.

So you have always known Messi as a "number 10"– I mean donning the number 10 shirt for club and country– isn't it?

Well Neymar offered him his PSG's number 10 shirt, in keeping with their famous close friendship and as a sign of excitement, respect and honour. However,in such a show of class, respect and humility, Messi politely declined the offer and instead revived a number he once wore in Barcelona. It is the number 30– he wore it on his Barca debut in 2003. Someone cheekily wrote, it is an addition of his idols' numbers Deco(who wore No.20 at Barca) and Ronaldinho (who wore No.10 at Barca) .

Well Messi has made his choice and what a classy way to begin life at a new club. This has surely sent the right message to the dressing room at PSG. As he gradually bows out of football in few years time, I guess it is fitting that he remembers his beginnings,in a way paying tribute to Barcelona who more or less started him on this journey to emphatic limelight.

By the way, people don't seem bothered about the number behind the shirt; shirt sales was such a baffling record– over 850,000 sold in the first 24hrs. No player in history has sold more!

Let me give you a little side gist to sign out. According to Marca , selling those number of shirt PSG has made a staggering $105 million in revenue. Now Messi will receive $41million annual salary in PSG. The club keeps about 10% of that revenue,so that's $10.5million profit in just the first 24hrs. Excuse me,please I need a glass of water.

Cheers
