Highlights of Alexander Arnold's 2020/2021 season

The 2020/2021 season has been anything but delightful for Trent Alexander Arnold.

No doubt, Liverpool has had a season full of injuries leading to some poor outings by them. However, more often than not, Trent has been singled out as one performing below par for Jurgen Klopp's team.

A good example was Liverpool's Champions League quarter-final tie against Real Madrid. Real Madrid winger Vinicius Jr, constantly outplayed Arnold on that right-hand flank. Leading to numerous criticisms by English pundits.

Nonetheless, despite Arnold's terrible display, it was still difficult to doubt his qualities. More often than not, it was a thing of him not being in form as opposed to him not being a good right-back.

Little wonder news about his potential omission from the Three-Lions Euro squad still comes as a surprise.

Gareth Southgate's options at right-back

As stated earlier, the possible omission of Alexander Arnold would be a tactical change as opposed to a lack of ability for the Liverpool man.

Reece James (Left), Kieran Trippier (Center), Kyle Walker (Right).

Currently, the English side is blessed with numerous options at the right-back position. The likes of Kyle Walker, Kieran Trippier, Reece James and Aaron Wan Bissaka are a few high profile names.

Based on numerous options available, reports have suggested Southgate is interested in full-backs who are solid both offensively and on the tackle.

Without any reasonable doubt, if judgements are based on that the Chelsea's Reece James, Manchester City's Kyle Walker and Atletico Madrid's Kieran Trippier are better suited.

Conclusion

The potential omission of Trent Alexander Arnold from the English squad does not close the gate to his time with the Three Lions.

He would definitely earn a call-up if there is a change of manager, injury concerns or a tactical reshuffle.
