The Portuguese government have stated they would open borders for tourist from Monday next week. This timing is impeccable, as it signals the beginning of preparations, for British fans who would want to witness the Champions League final.

The venue for the Champions League final

The venue for the final was relocated to the Estadio do Dragao in Portugal. This is coming after Portugal was announced among countries in UK's green travel list.

Fans and supporters alike in the UK had begun to make preparations for their trip. Moreover, things looked to be on a halt when news that the travel ban in Portugal had not been lifted came in.

Statements emanating from Portugal

In line with previous doubts arising, the Portuguese government has come out to clear the air. Thus bringing positive news to the British fans.

The travel ban in Portugal will be lifted on Monday 17th of May. Nonetheless, foreign fans are expected to be in the City and its environs early, in other to be quarantined for the allotted period.

Requirements for making the journey

• Foreign visitors are expected to take the Covid-19 PCR examination within three days of their exit to Portugal.

• Fans of both teams are expected to pay more to make this journey. Before this time, a spherical trip from the UK to Portugal costs 100 Euros. However, with recent events, fans are expected to pay 565 Euros to make the trip.

Conclusion

The Champions League final was initially scheduled to hold in Istanbul Turkey. However, due to the recent outbreak of Covid-19 the venue had to change.

Also, Wembly was another preferred destination. However, the UK government failed to consent to some terms made by UEFA.

Putting all this in mind, UEFA would be doing all within their powers to make sure this current venue stands.
