Norwegian born manager, Ole Gunner Solskjaer has gone on to defend the reason behind benching Cristiano Ronaldo in the game against Everton.

However, as was expected, cameras caught Ronaldo on the bench looking quite frustrated with the team's performance.

Ole's tactics

The Norwegian manager made about 4 changes from the squad that featured against the Spanish side Villareal in midweek. The exciting event no doubt was to see Anthony Martial net for the Red Devils after a long injury spell.

On his part, Ronaldo was thrown into the fray sometime in the second half. Nonetheless, for all his good intentions the Portuguese could not stop the Red Devils from being held to a draw.

After the final whistle, Ronaldo was seen storming off the field with anger and displeasure written all over his face. While muttering a few words on his way out.

Ole's post-match statements

After the game, Ole Gunner Solskjaer had some things to say to the press concerning the omission of Cristiano Ronaldo from the initial starting eleven.

According to him, the Manchester United manager insisted that all managers have decisions to make in other to protect their players. And from his observation, he dimmed it right to rest Ronaldo today.

Conclusion

No doubt, Manchester United fans would be eager to see Ronaldo feature week in and week out. However, they should also remember that the five-time Balon d’Or winner is on the wrong side of 30 these days.

As such, it would be unthinkable to imagine that Ronaldo would feature in all of the United games this season. This was no doubt the point Ole was pointing out.

That being said, we all can hope that the Red Devils would get back to winning ways on their next encounter.
