It was a great humiliation yesterday when Tottenham Hotspur hosted Red Star Belgrade at home in the UEFA champions league game as Harry Kane and Heung-min Son star for the club in the game. Tottenham were not really in good form this season has they were fortunate to get a point in their last league game against Watford. The team has failed to build on their last season performance in the competition after losing their first game to Bayern Munich in the group in a bad manner. Their new stadium has now witnessed lot of goal rush in the European competition together with the Bayern Munich drama but this time around it was the club take charge here with a 5-0 demolition of Red Belgrade.
Tottenham manager Pochettino can now feel relief a little before his side will travel to Liverpool on Sunday in the English premier league. Before the game, the team has been struggling with getting good results in some of their outing with loosing some vital points this season which has bring about some tension in the club over the future of their manager and a possible replacement in that role but it seems the players are fully aware of the fact that their manager job is at stake with their recent performance and really need to come together as one again. Although, the team in the start of the season had some injury issues with some of their top players and some players that want to switch the club for another club but which ever way, the win against Red Belgrade yesterday will go a long way in bringing some stability in the team.
Both Harry Kane and Heung-min Son all scored twice in the game to ensure Tottenham move to the second position in the group. It was their first win in the group and it is now clear that the club can still go far to the next round of the competition if only they can repeat what they did yesterday again when they will be facing Red Belgrade in their second leg game. Kane put the club ahead in just 9 minutes of the game with a powerful header before Son doubled the lead in 16 minutes and also make it 3-0 lead before the half time. The Korea star was really a threat in the game yesterday with some great moves in the opposition half.
The second half begins and it was Tottenham again adding to their goals when Lamela get himself on the scoring sheet before Kane completed his brace in the 72 minutes. The visitors though doesn't look bad in their attack but were just unfortunate to have a consolidation goal in the game, they actually had 13 shots in the game with 5 of the shots on target compared to Tottenham 19 shots in the game but Tottenham shots on target is enough to understand how they really approach the game, the club had 12 shots on target from their 19 shots. It was a well deserved victory for them but it will be very early to say they are awake from their slumber because they still have another bigger test to a side they lost to in final stage of the competition last year.
Tottenham manager will now be hoping his side stay focus and work together as one again when they travel to Anfield on Sunday. Winning their next game in the league will now mean they have finally identify their weaknesses and ready for the season again.
