From the start of the season, Chelsea Football Club doesn't look like a real title contender but after playing like 5-6 matches, everyone is now of the assertion that they are one of the team to win the league. With the way the log table look like now, I don't think they have a space in the race any longer this season. Maybe fighting and finishing in the top 4 can be a consolation success to their effort this season.
Lot has been said about the reason why the team has dropped some vital points against the likes of Tottenham, Wolverhampton and in their last game against Leicester city. Chelsea this season are well known for the SarriBall tactics which allow the team to dominate every matches with possessions but they are not very clinical when it comes to scoring goals. The combination of their two strikers have not been able to produce 10 goals all together which is really bad for a club like Chelsea.
It all started when Sarri was been criticized for playing Ngolo Kante off position, currently now, the team has many options in the midfield but Ngolo Kante is the only defensive midfielder. Secondly, he was criticized for sticking to one pattern of play which is the 4-3-3 formation but against Manchester City, the whole thing work well even though there was a change in selection which saw Hazard been deployed to the number 9 role but Kante prove to everyone why is been used offensively.
After watching the game against Leicester City, there is something i noticed. I don't see the passion, the killing instinct i use to see in the Chelsea team when the likes of Terry, Lampard, Ivanovic and Drogba are still playing for Chelsea. This Chelsea team look emotionally disturbed and really need the help of a football psychologist, but it is very bad the club don't have one now. Sarri after the Leicester game said he don't think the problem Chelsea had in that match is fatigue but the problem has to do with their mentality.
Sarri himself said he is not ready to work with a football psychologist due to the experience he had after working with a psychologist in his 15 years there and also believe the club is not ready at the moment.
I had a sports psychologist 15 years ago in Italy, it was really very difficult because the clubs were not ready in that moment, but i think that they are not ready also in this moment.
The essence of having a sport psychologist is to help players to develop mentally and emotionally in terms of goal- setting, concentration, relaxation, awareness, mental practice, perfectionalism and lots more.
Having a psychologist can really go a long way in helping the team, especially, player like willan to me really need some to help him gain his confidence back. He is not the willian i use to know some years back. He play this days like someone who is having a personal issue and that will need the help of psychological specialist to get over it.
