It wasn't a good outing for Maurizio Sarri team as they were thrashed, disgraced, humiliated and flogged by Manchester City at the Ethiad stadium 6-0. The last time Chelsea lost 4-0 to Bournemouth, Sarri locked his players for almost 45 minutes and the players responded well to that by thrashing Southampton in their next game 5-0 and with the result against Southampton, everyone hope Chelsea continue with that massive display against Manchester City but things doesn't go as expected and maybe this time, Sarri will have to locked his players up for 2 hours and talk some sense into their brain because the scoreline was a bad one for a team like Chelsea.
Chelsea who was identified as one of the title contender's now occupied the 6th position and the chance of the team qualifying for next year champions league is very slim and narrow as the likes if Manchester United and Arsenal now sit on the 4th and 5th position respectively. Chelsea now found themselves in the waterloo and if proper care is not taking, the team may not make it to the top 4 at the end of the season.
Manchester City whitewashed Sarri team to move to the 1st position with goal difference separating them and Liverpool despite Liverpool still having a game behind. Raheem Sterling open the scoring in 4 minutes of the game before Aguero doubled the lead in 13 minutes of the game with an outstanding effort. City continue to show why they are still favorite to win the league as Aguero completed his brace in the 19 minutes before Gundogan made if 4-0 in 25th minutes before the half break.
Chelsea suffered their biggest and worst defeat in the past 28 years since losing 0-7 to Nottingham Forest in April 1991, Chelsea got their biggest defeat two weeks ago against Bournemouth but the result against Manchester City is the biggest in 28 years which is very bad for a team like Chelsea.
The line up obviously show that Sarri is not fully aware of the attacking power of Manchester City because Ross Barkley was picked ahead of Kovacic who is more defensive minded that Barkley, the likes of Alonso, Barkley and Hazard are attacking minded players and playing the three of them against team like Manchester City will only allow their players to operate at every angle.
Aguero completed his hat trick in 56 minutes after the half break to make it 11 hat trick in his premier league career, Sarri choose to play Pedro ahead of workaholic Willian which implies that out of the 11 players fed in by Sarri, only 5 players are defensive minded player while 5 are attacking minded player and no wonder the team is thrashed 6-0. Raheem Sterling made it 6-0 after completing his brace in 80 minutes.
The league is now getting hotter as the battle for top 4 is now wide open to transformed Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea. Manchester United move to the 4th position with 51 points while Arsenal and Chelsea are on 5th and 6th position with 50 points with just 26 matches played.
Manchester City won everything against Chelsea, not even on goals alone but when it comes to ball possession, City had 56% while Chelsea had 44%. City had 13 shots with 9 on target while Chelsea managed 12 shots with only 4 on target. When it comes to passes completed, City completed more passes than Chelsea 680 to 533 and 92% pass accuracy to Chelsea who had only 88% pass accuracy.
My Word of Encouragement
Just like I said earlier, tough time don't last but tough people do. So the team need to understand that it is not over until it is over and when it comes to pressure, I know the team will be feeling the pressure all together but they should go back to what Pep Guardiola says after the match concerning pressure that
“Pressure doesn’t exist. All we can do is make the pressure vanish and play like a team. If we win, perfect, if we don’t, there is next season.”
The team must have it in mind that pressure doesn't exist, they should try every possible best to make sure it vanish even if it exist. The team should bounce back against Malmo in the Europa league.
