Welcome back to another great moan day post and with so much fallen happening over the week, my moan day post for this week will be centered on Pep Guardiola team, Manchester City to be precise who visited Tottenham Hotspur last week in the English league and got a disappointing result after the game, it was a 2-0 defeat from from the hand of Jose Mourinho men which also gave league leader Liverpool another advantage to extend their lead in the league. After the game last week, Liverpool took their lead to 22 points lead which means they can win the title before March 28 and one of those things that has really helped them so far this season has been due to a number of falls from Manchester City who was identified as a strong contender when the league began back in August last year. While the Citizens continue to dropped some vital points, the Reds continues to get it right in their games and with the Reds now cleared for the title, the only thing left in the league that worth challenging for is which team will book the European ticket next season talking about the UEFA champions league.
With the top 4 race still a busy one, Tottenham after the game moved to the fifth position to put the pressure on Chelsea which occupies the fourth position for a long period this season but will be facing some difficult matches in their next games. Although, as it stand now, Manchester City still occupies the second position but must be very careful not to lose the spot to third position team Leicester City with only 2 points separating the two teams. The result of the game between the Citizens and Spur now gave the London team a big hope for the top 4 with only 4 points separating them from Chelsea, both managers already know that it is going to be a cracker when they both meet but before the game, Jose men remains the under dog with the number of star player packed in the Manchester City team and with the recent form of Aguero, Manchester City got the highest winning percentage because Tottenham on the other end has been struggling with result looking at their last 5 games in the league, their form goes thus; DLLDW, with their latest win before the City game coming against Norwich in a narrow escape while Manchester City are looking forward to make it 5 league wins in 6 outings.
Although, they enjoyed most of the ball possession and had a lot of chances in the game but couldn't make use of it. Looking at both manager tactics, Jose is not the kind of manager that love to expose his team and instead will allow his team to attack in the game through counter attack play while Pep Guardiola is not the kind of manager that will sit back and watch his team chasing the ball, this we can justify in the number of shots they both had in the game with Manchester City recording 18 shots in the game compared to Tottenham 3 shots overall, with that, it shows that the Citizens were not too clinical upfront while Tottenham were able to recorded two goals from their 3 shots. The game witnessed lots of drama with Sterling failed to be book for a foul on Dele Alli and few minutes to the end of the first 45 minutes, Manchester City won the appeal for a penalty after Aurier's challenge on Aguero was reviewed by VAR as penalty and it would have be a different story if Gundogan had put it into the back of the net but Tottenham goalkeeper did well to save it and Jose show a little drama when the referee failed to book Sterling for the second yellow card for diving which would have resulted in a red card for the England winger.
The second half begins and Manchester City continues to create chances from every angle of the pitch but met their waterloo in the 60 minutes when Zinchenko was sent off in the game for a poor challenge on Winks, the Ukrainian had first received a yellow card when he and Alderweireld confronted each other after Sterling diving which resulted in both players being booked for a yellow card and with another yellow card for the challenge on Winks got him sent off and that gave Tottenham the chance to change the game, 3 minutes later after Zinchenko has been sent off, new signing Bergwijn scored his debut goal to put Spur ahead in the game from Lucas Moura's cross. What a good one from a player who just arrived at the club from PSV on a fee around £27m, while City thought they have seen it all, Tottenham doubled the lead through Son Heung- Min in the 71 minutes, both G.Jesus and and B.Silva failed to score from City late chances and Tottenham took all the points.
My Word For Manchester City
Although, the challenge for the title is over with Liverpool now leading with 22 points but Manchester City need to realize something that success in the league at times does not depend on winning the league alone, they should never give up in their remaining matches and that is why am challenging them with this success quote which says;
Never give up. There is no such thing as an ending. Just a new beginning.
