If there is any team team that really need to be encouraged last week, I think it is Nice, it is more than the game anyway but the scoreline. It is really bad for a team like nice to concede 8-1 because it is a great humiliation for a big club like Nice, I really think they should have done better in that game, even though they can't win the game due to their current form, the scoreline should have be either 2-1 or 2-0.
One amazing thing about preseason game is that some team sees this period as the best time to try out their young players and see how far they can really go when they season start, then they can really know the player they are going to use when the season finally kick start.
Wolfsburg make Nice look like a team who is not fully prepared for the season with 8-1 scoreline and it is such a humiliation because I personally begins to wonder what can really went wrong in that game even though it was a friendly game. Wolfsburg went into the game the game with a better form compared to Nice though, at least for a team with a WDDWDW to be playing a team with WLLLWL, one can easily know the team to go with.
Wolfsburg dominated the game from the start of the game to the end by creating many chances and utilizing most of the chances created. It doesn't take too long before Wolfsburg opened their scoring account in the game when Felix Klaus put them ahead in just 7 minutes into the game, although Nice didn't take too long to respond back to level the scoreline when Dante also find the back of the net in the 14 minutes to make the scoreline 1-1, the game continues as both teams continue to show their tactics but it was Wolfsburg that finally top the game before the half break when Wout Weghorst scored again for them in the 30 minutes and that was the only difference between the two sides before the whistle was blown for half time.
The second half begins and both teams continue to show their style of play, while Wolfsburg was trying to kill the game, Nice was trying all the could do to bring the game back to level and much didn't happened until the 74 minutes when Yannick Gerhard scored again for Wolfsburg and took the scoreline to 3-1, Nice would have wish the game ended like that but Wolfsburg seems to have studied their weakness and read the game far better than them and in the 78 minutes, they scored another goal through Josip Brekalo before Yannick Gerhardt completed his brace in the 85 minutes to make the scoreline 5-1.
The most surprising aspect of the game is that Nice went ahead to concedes 3 goals in the 90 minutes which is just too bad for them and I think the defenders needs to be questioned for that or probably they are tired of the game and was waiting for the final whistle. Felix Uduokhai, Jeffrey Bruma, Renato Steffen all got their name on the scoring sheet in the 90 minutes before the final whistle. On July 30, Nice also lost 6-1 to Burnley before the Wolfsburg game and I think they really need to step up their game and work on their defense line because they have lots of strong opponent to compete with in the ligue 1 league.
Let me take you back to what Joe Torre says about preparation which goes thus;
Competing at the highest level is not about winning, it is about preparation, courage, understanding and nurturing your people and heart. Winning is the result.
Preparation in any game goes beyond winning, it is about building courage and understanding among the players so that they can easily blend together and knows how to handle every matches and if at the end, the whole things goes well then winning is the final result.
