Cristiano Ronaldo may have scored 31 goals in Serie A, but he was out of the list of prizes this season in the Italian league. The distinction for the best player was for Paulo Dybala, Argentine with whom he shares the Juventus attack
Argentine Juventus striker Paulo Dybala has been named the best player of the 2019/20 season in Italian football, while Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo was left out of the list of winners, the Italian League of Clubs announced Tuesday.
In a note published on the official website of Serie A, the organization explained that the allocation of the six prizes was based on statistical data collected by the platforms 'Stats Perform' and 'Netco Sports' in the league games, Italian Cup and Super Cup of the current season.
Dybala, 26, added 11 goals and six assists in Serie A, contributing to Juventus's ninth consecutive title, who lost the Italian Cup final to Inter Milan and was defeated by Lazio in the Transalpine Super Cup.
The Argentine succeeds Cristiano Ronaldo, a teammate in the Bianconeri, who had received this award last season. Despite having a better performance than the previous season, including the second best scorer in the championship, with 31 goals, the Portuguese striker was left out of the list of winners.
The Polish Wojciech Szczesny, also from Juventus, was considered the best goalkeeper of the season in Italy, the central defender Stefan de Vrij, from Inter Milan, was distinguished as the best defender and the Argentine Papu Gómez, from Atalanta, as the best medfielder.
Lazio player, Serie A best scorer in Serie A, with 36 goals, and Golden Boot of the current European season, was distinguished as the best forward, while the award for best young player was awarded to Parma's attacking midfielder Dejan Kulusevski, future strengthening of Juventus.
The six winners will receive their trophies at the start of next season, according to Serie A.
