Just about a half an hour ago, I got a push notification about the fresh appointment of Frank Arnesen as Technical Director of Anderlecht.
Followers of the Jupiler Pro League, the Belgian top class of professional football, know that Anderlecht is going through some pretty rough times. Since the takeover by new mecenas, Marc Coucke, things haven't been going very well on the pitch.
The new president over estimated the know how of the TD he appointed, Luc Devroe, and by that a load of players entered Anderlecht that are not of the level they should be for contending for the title in Belgium. Players like Sanneh (8 million EUR!), Santini, Vranjes, ... are just not good enough.
With the sacking of the coach, Hein Van Haezebrouck the current TD also had to settle for another position at the club. And, Pär Zetterberg entered as assistant coach.
Now it is till a waiting game for a new head coach. But with the signing of Frank Arnesen, I am sure a whole other class of players will enter the "Constant Vandenstock Stadium". With his knowledge and contacts in Holland, England and Scandinavia, Anderlecht can hopefully once again make its name in Belgium and Europe!
Sincerely,
