Bayern Munich moves a step closer to an 8th consecutive league title with a crushing 5 nil victory over visiting Fortuna Dusseldorf on Saturday evening to temporarily op3en a 10-point gap over 2nd place Borussia Dortmund who had a Sunday evening fixture at SC Paderborn 07.

The Bavarians followed up a crucial title-winning, 1-nil victory over fierce rival Dortmund on Tuesday with another stellar performance over Fortuna at the Allianz Arena to consolidate their one-handed grip on the title with 5 matches to go.

Bayern was 1 nil up 15 minutes into the kick-off when Fortuna centre-half Mathias Joergensen put the ball into his own net and just before the half-hour mark Bayern double their advantage when right full-back Benjamine Pavard headed home a Joshua Kimmich corner kick. Robert Lewandowski weighed in on the action with a goal in each half (43' & 50'), his 2nd goal a delightful backheel. Pacey Left full-back Alphonso Davies(52') continued his outstanding run of form with a well-worked goal to complete the rout.

Bayern now tops the Bundesliga table with 67 points from 29 games played and a goal difference of 58. Although Dortmund's 6-1 win at Paderborn cut Bayern's lead back to 7 points, 3 more wins from the games left will secure Bayern's 29th Bundesliga triumphs, safe to say Bayern's only threat to winning the league title is their self.
