Spurs 2-1 Brighton & Hove Albion
Tottenham Hotspur Dele Alli continued his inspiring form to steer his side to a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Brighton at White Hart Lane, Adam Webster had given the visitor a surprise lead in the 37th minute but a delightful finish from Alli(72'), his 5th in 7 matches under the leadership of Jose Mourinho completed the fightback. Harry Kane had earlier equalized in the 53rd minute at the 2nd time of asking after he saw a goal ruled offside by VAR midway through the 1st half.
The victory saw Spurs sit on 5th on the log table, 3 points behind 4th place Chelsea(level on 29 points with Sheffield United but ahead on goal difference).
Bournemouth 1-1 Arsenal
Arsenal rescued a point at the Vitality Stadium having come from a goal down to draw level. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's 63rd-minute goal(his 12th goal of the campaign) cancelled out Dan Gosling's 35th-minute opener. It wasn't the start Arsenal new manager Mikel Arteta had hoped for but he'd sure take a point ahead of defeat.
The result sees Arsenal remain in 11th position on EPL log table with 24 points, 8 points outside of the last champions league spot currently occupied by London rival Chelsea. Arsenal's run of a win in 12 matches continues, it seems UCL qualification is increasingly slipping away from the Gunners.
Chelsea 0-2 Southampton
Chelsea's topsy turvy season continues when they slumped to a shocking 0-2 home loss to the Saints at Stamford Bridge. Coming from a remarkable victory at Spurs last weekend, the Frank Lampard tutored side went down to Michael Obafemi effort from the edge of the Chelsea box in the 31st minute of kickoff and then slipped further behind in the 73rd minute when Nathan Redmond sealed victory for Sutton. Chelsea dominated possession but failed to make it count no thanks to a resolute defending from the Saint.
The Blues remain in 4th place on the log table with 32 points but now have Spurs breathing down their neck in 5th place, with only 3 points separating the London rivals, with UEFA Champions League spot at stake.
Manchester United 4-1 Newcastle United
Manchester United recovered from an early scare to record a comprehensive 4-1 win over Newcastle at Old Trafford. The Red Devils were hoping for a swift response after their last 0-2 defeat at Watford but went down to a 17-minute goal from Matthew Longstaff. However, United rally and turned things around with goals from Anthony Martial(24', 51'), Mason Greenwood(36'), Marcus Rashford(41') doing the damage.
United now on 7th position on the log table with 28 points after 19 matches but could be overtaken if Wolves which sits in 8th wins her outstanding fixture. Newcastle isn't far behind in 10th position with 25 points.
Leicester 0-4 Liverpool
Arguably the most anticipated match of the round, most had seen it as the fixture that would further tighten Liverpool's tight grip on top of the league or not. It turned out to be a one(1) sided match, with Liverpool running riot, putting 4 un-replied goals past the foxes. Roberto Firmino(31', 74'), James Milner(71' PEN) & Trent Alexander-Arnold (78') all on song. Once again, Liverpool reliable right-back(TAA) was in the midst of it all, making 2 assists and a goal.
Liverpool comfortably sits atop the EPL table with 13 points ahead of 2nd place Leicester City, seemingly out of reach of closest & realistic challengers Leicester and Manchester City.
Other results include;
Aston Villa recorded a slim 1 nil home win over Norwich City, Conor Hourihane (64') with the winner.
Crystal Palace left it late to complete a 2-1 turnaround win over West Ham, Cheikhou Kouyaté (68') and Jordan Ayew (90') with the decisive goals. West Ham had taken the lead through Robert Snodgrass (57').
A winning start for Everton new manager Carlo Ancelotti as Everton recorded a 1-0 win over a dodged Burnley, Dominic Calvert-Lewin (80') late goal rescued all 3 points.
Sheffield United close chase for a European spot still going strong as they played out a 1-1 draw with Watford. Oliver Norwood (36') PEN) and Gerard Deulofeu (27') scored the goals for Sheffield and Watford respectively.
Wolves - Manchester City; outstanding, a win for City will only reduce the point deficit between them and Liverpool reduce to 10, still an uphill task for the Citizen.
