Robert Lewandoski is a proven goal scorer not just for the Polish national team but also for every club notably Dortmund and Bayern Munich he laced his boot for.
Poland's UEFA Nations League A, group 3 match against Portugal marked the 100th cap for Robert Lewandoski. Accolades fly in for Lewy before the match from left, right and center from both outside and within Poland.
Wlodzimier Lubanski, Polish former leading international goalscorer was quoted saying:
He will break all our most significant records not just mine,...102 caps will be Robert's sooner or later. I am pretty sure he can score 60 goals for poland
Another, Zbigniew Boniek, Polish Football Association (PZPN) President says:
...every success needs a face and that face is Robert Lewandoski. He is absolutely world class
Lewandoski's exploited started some 10 years ago when he became the 2nd youngest Polish national team debutant, he came off the bench to score a debut goal in a 2 nil away win at San Marino in a 2010 FIFA world cup qualifier at the age of 20 years and 20 days. 10 years on, Lewandoski has never looked back, scoring goals with reckless abandon for both club and country, His 55 international goals make him the all time highest scorer for Poland.
However, Lewandoski 100th cap against Cristiano Ronaldo-less Portugal did not go according to script. The match played on Thurs 11th Oct, 2018 at the Slaski stadium, Chorzow, Poland, saw party spoiler Portugal came away with all 3 points, leaving Poland rooted at group bottom and run risk of relegating down to League B.
To the match itself, Portuguese team even without Cristiano Ronaldo look like a team on a mission, and the mission is simple, Spoil the party for Lewy, and they came through with the mission. Lewandoski barely touch the football before its been hassled away from Lewy by the unfazed Portugese players.
It was a match in which Poland had everything it takes to win, two great strikers in Lewy himself and an inform Genoa forward Krzysztof Piatek, and they Poland started like a house on fire, getting the break through goal as early as 18th minutes through Piatek, but the lead lasted just 13 minutes, Poland blinked at the back and were punished, as Portuguese right back danced past couple of Polish players and squared the ball to an unmarked Andre Silva who tapped in the equalizer on 31st minute. 11 minutes later Poland conceded another goal when Kamil Glik under pressure put the ball into his own neton 42nd minutes. Going into the break, Portugal led 2-1.
On resumption of play in the second half, Poland went further behind 1- 3 on 52nd minutes as Bernardo Silva was afforded too much space to fire just outside the 18 yard box, it was seemingly game over. The overall posession of Poland 48% to Portugal's 52% and other statistics show that the match was not out of reach for Poland, they just wasn't as clinical as they normally be, and the defence were flat footed, especially in the first half. A rallying cry led by captain Lewy saw Poland pull a goal back but it was rather too little too late to salvage at least a point for king Lewy and Polish team. Poland lost 2 - 3 to Portugal.
This article is my entry post to Happy Moan-Day October 15th!, you can all check it out.
So, to king Lewandoski and us all, things don't always go according to our plans, Life just have a way of sticking out a foot to trip us over, but when we do find ourselves tripped over, there is only one way to go, Up!
He that is down needs fear no fall ...John Bunyan .
It is just a minor blip to your colorful career Lewy, remember Martin Luther king Jr says:
we must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope.
