Juventus popularly known as the Old Ladies Of Turin conceded 6 goals in just 2 matches, in a space of 4 days, first of which was a quarter-final Coppa Italia exit, Juventus were defeated 3 nil by Atalanta, and then, a Serie A match-day 22 against Parma, where they let go of a 2-goal advantage to draw 3 all.
The Old Ladies were known for their ruthlessness, not just in attack that boasts of the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Paulo Dybala and Mario Mandzukic, but in the defence too that has in their ranks the famous BBC, Bonucci, Barzagli and Chiellini. The BBC partnership at Juventus backline has seen them so dogged and impregnable for years, the defensive success has been matching the success of the attack for the past 7 years in which Juventus have been winning the Serie A, and have not lost a league match this present 2018-19 season so far. The BBC may be passing their prime now, but they have successfully passed the barton to the new lads on the block, the likes of Daniele Rugani, Medhi Benatia, Alex Sandro and co had been integrated into the defensive duty for the Old Ladies remarkably.

Prior to the match-day 22 in the Serie A, Juventus had conceded just 12 goals in 21 league matches, a goal every 158 minutes, an outstanding statistic in Europes top 4 leagues(English Premiership, Spanish La Liga, Italia Serie A and Germans Bundesliga) that is better only by English Premiership side, Liverpool, which conceded 10 goals after same number of matches, 21, a goal every 189 minutes. So, Juventus conceding 3 goals in domestic football is not something fans see every day or have seen for a long time, let alone conceding a total of 6 goals in just 2 matches.
It all started in the quarter-final loss at the hand of Atalanta, a 3-nil meant Massimiliano Allegri will not be defending the Coppa Italia, or win it for the 5th time as Juventus manager. The run-away Serie A leader with 60 points on the log table as shown above was hoping to extend their amazing cup run under Allegri, but their opponent who sits on 7th position on log table had other ideas. Juventus fielded a strong lineup that includes Ronaldo, Dybala and Chiellini, but were poor on the night and were stunned by their determined opponent. Atalanta got the ball rolling with a 37th-minute goal through Timothy Castagne after he dispossessed Juventus right back Joao Cancelo. Atalanta pulled further away just 2 minutes after in the 39th minutes when their Colombian striker, Duvan Zapata scored after Juventus failed to clear the ball to safety in their box. Juventus were so poor on the night and got their only effort on target in the second half through a midfielder, Sami Khedira, but Atalanta goalkeeper, Etrit Berisha was equal to the task, BBCSports stat below shows how poor Juventus were in front of Atalanta goal.
Atalanta sealed their victory 4 minutes from time when another error at the back presented Duvan Zapata to completes his double in the match, 3 nil it finished against Juventus, Juventus attack was on the night, but the famous defence was much appalling.
Just 3 days after the Coppa Italia disappointment, Juventus were eager for a response, a point to prove in Serie A match-day 22 against Parma, a team that sits 12th, 11 places below them on the log table, but things did not actually go the way they would have wanted either. Though the attack did came to the party with 3 goals from 7 shots on target as shown from match stats below,
but the famous backline let them down yet again. Cristiano Ronaldo helped himself with a double this time, one each on 36th minutes and 66th minutes, on either side of teammate, Daniele Rugani's goal in the 62nd minutes, but a spirited fight back from Parma saw them pulled level, an Antonino Barilla header in the 64th minutes, then a brace from former Arsenal ace, Gervinho, firstly, in the 74th minutes, and late on in added time 90+3 minutes, to break Juventus fans heart, not because they lost the league, but because of the manner in which the goals were conceded, it is un-Juventus-like to let a 2-goals margin slipped away at home turf.
6 goals conceded in 2 games by the Old Ladies Of Turin is all too new for their fans, and would certainly have the fans moan and worried, especially coming at a time the UCL match looms, their quest for a UCL crown may be at jeopardy if the defence is freakishly leaking this way. Fans will be hoping the defence only went on a holiday and are back with usual top-notch defending in match-day 23.
The wise English philosopher, Cyril Edwin Mitchinson Joad, once said a thing or two on how men improve with age just like wine, and how some might turn vinegar, hopefully, this is not a Juventus turning vinegar.
Men are like wine. Some turn to vinegar, but the best improve with age. C.E.M. Joad
