It seems this year is a year of breaking long standing barriers/jinxes to some prominent football clubs. First we see Liverpool lifting the English Premier League trophy after a long long wait of 30 years and now PSG have done something similar.....Not similar as in lifting the league trophy. NO in fact in the last 10 years, PSG have won the League title 7 times! This is why I wonder why they've not been able to make it to the semifinal stage of the UEFA champions league for the past 25 years..well, they've broken the spell this year after a dramatic comeback at Lisbon as they played against Green Horns Atalanta.
Although PSG were the better side (as expected) dominating every statistic in the game, that didn't stop the ball from finding its way into the back of their net at the 26th minute of the match..a shocker to me I must say because to me, the match was gonna be a clean sheet win for PSG...Atalanta held the lead up until the 90th minute.. the pressure was too much for them and the fatigue was clearly visible on them and they finally gave in with a goal from Marquinhos...It was indeed a relief for Thomas Tuchell and his side as Marquinhos' goal meant they've escaped the claws of elimination and the match could enter extra time...it didn't however as Eric Choupo-Moting gave them the winning goal after Mbappe squared the ball across for him...and to think that PSG's saviour that night would be a player relegated from the English Premier League..😁
My post wouldn't be complete without me acknowledging Atalanta.. believe me those guys TRIED! To imagine that they got to this stage in their first Champions League appearance and even scoring first is no mean fit..PSG were staring at Elimination in the face because of this team. Atalanta were not even in the first five teams in the Italian series A at the end of the 2017/18 season. They moved from being seventh to third at the end of the 2018/19 season and they've maintained that position in the just concluded season. I must say I'm impressed by their performance so far and I see them as a team with great potential!
