Joachim Loew Germany failed to defend their champions title. Needing a win vs South Korea who have almost lost all chances of qualifying to the next stage, the Germans failed to deliver quality and lost 0-2. In the parallel game Sweden shattered Mexico, but both teams progressed to the next round.

Germany are out of the first round since 1938! They’ve never failed to make it out of a World Cup group before! So this is quite amazing. But also very logic if we take their performances into consideration on this tournament. A shaky start vs Mexico losing 0-1. Then a last-gasp win vs Sweden which could have easily been a draw. And then a disaster vs South Korea. Still, deserved.

It was a draw until very late that still did not help Germany to the next round. But then Koreans managed to score a pivotal goal that even VAR could not deny. Kim Young-gwon converted his chance very well. After that Bundesmannschaft rushed forward and even Neuer was in the opponents' box for an equalizer, but instead Germany conceded the second. And it was all over for 2014 World Cup winners…
