Year 1(1976-1977)

Liverpool Wins

Liverpool Faced Borussia Monchengladbach in the finals of European Cup where they defeated them to win the first-ever European Cup and only the second English team to achieve this feat after Manchester United's victory over Benfica in 1967-68. Team Led by recently appointed Manager Bob paisley was the successor of the Liverpool great Bill Shankly. The road finals were quite easy for Liverpool apart from the quarter-finals where they faced Saint Etienne. Keegan spearheaded the Liverpool attack and had a prolific season.


Year 2(1977-1978)

Liverpool Wins

Liverpool Won back to back, defeating Club Brugge. They became the first team in England to have won the European cup on more than one occasion. And Liverpool had been given a bye in the Round of 32 and they were able to carry forward the momentum of the previous season. Liverpool faced Borrusia Monchengladbach in the semis and they thrashed them 3-0 after losing 2-1 in the first Leg. This was the season when Kenny Dalglish made himself established in the world by leading Liverpool to yet another glory and scoring the only goal in the finals.


Year 3(1978-1979)

Nottingham Forest Wins

Nottingham Forest Won their first-ever European Cup by beating Malmo. Brian Clough powered the team to achieve the feat. They won the English First Division as well. After they won the Cup, English became the first-ever league to have 3 different winners on the European cup joining Manchester United and Liverpool in the premier league hall of fame. They were amazing side as they beat the favorites and the defending champions Liverpool in the road to finals. Apart from Liverpool they only had FC Koln that proved to be any obstructions, the rest was easy.


Year 4(1979-1980)

Nottingham Forest Wins

This season they became the only club that holds more European cups as compared to the Domestic League cups. They overtook fellow league team Manchester United in terms of European trophies by 2 to 1. They beat Oster, Ajax, Arges Pitesti, BFC Dynamo, and then beat Hamburg in the finals.


Year 5(1980-1981)

Liverpool Wins

Liverpool came par With Bayern and Ajax both won 3 consecutive titles between 1971-1976 and they overtook Milan, Inter, and Benfica all at 2. They beat the European Giants Real Madrid who previously won the competition a then-record 6 times. And till then the winners of the European cup were between the fixed 4 clubs(Liverpool, Nottingham, Bayern, and Ajax) for the past 11 years. Liverpool became one of the deadliest forces under Bob Paisley and one of the best teams in Europe.


Year 6(1981-1982)

Aston Villa Wins

They became the 4th club from English First Division to with this coveted trophy, behind United, Liverpool, and Forest. They broke the streak of 4 teams winning the cup by beating powerhouse Bayern in the finals. And this would be a year an English team won the competition. Previously this record was held by Spain, Real Madrid won the competition 5 times consecutively from 1956-60.


Subsequent Years

1983-1984 Liverpool wins

1984-1985 Liverpool lost to Juventus in the finals.


These Years from 1977 to 1985 have been the most glorious years of English football. Bob Paisley's era for Liverpool was the highlight of these years. Even today Premier League has the most number of teams winning the champions including Chelsea which won their first trophy in 2012 beating Bayern. In total Premier League teams have 13 trophies.
