Liverpool and Spurs hammered their way into the top of the table. The boxing day fixtures of both these teams saw goals raining. Liverpool scored 4 against New Castle United and Spurs hammered 5 past Bournemouth.

On the other hand, Man City who looked almost invincible a couple of weeks ago, lost three games in a row out of their four. Leicester City managed to sneak past twice against the Man City defence despite Bernardo Silva scoring the first goal of the game.

Liverpool vs New Castle United (4-0)

Liverpool were clinical in their approach. Eleven minutes into the game, a fine volley from Lovren undone the New Castle defence. The volley was world class with anti spin of the ball that zoomed past the goalkeeper opening the floodgates.

Mo Salah went down softly against the challenge right after the half-time but managed to earn a penalty. He scored his first of the game making it 2-0 for Liverpool.

Shaqiri made it 3-0, his 8th in five games, and Fabinho came off the bench to scored the final for Liverpool. Liverpool managed to clinched a clean sheet as well. With the win they are at 51 points and are on top of the table with a game against the gunners in the weekend. The game will be a real test of their character and their defensive line. But with the form they are in right now, they can drift further away from the other teams.

Spurs vs Bournemouth (5-0)

Following Liverpool to the top of the table are Spurs and are raining goals against their opponents in this Christmas week of 2018. After the emphatic win against Everton last game week, they managed to score five goals one more time. This time, they also earned a clean sheet.

Although Dele Ali did not play the game, the remaining members of their "fab-four" continued their goal scoring form.

Eriksen started the proceeding with an early goal which was then continued by Son and Kane. Son scored twice, and Lucas Moura scoring also managing his name on the score sheet. Spurs handed Bournemouth their biggest defeat in the premier league.

Spurs will play Wolves next and they are expected to win that game as well.

Man City vs Leicester City (1-2)

Highlights from the game (source)

Leicester handed a loss to Man City adding salt to their injury. At King Power Stadium, Leicester City managed to cement to their place on top 10 of the league table. With this win, they managed to score past both their games against Chelsea and Man City. They should be feeling pretty good about their form at the moment.

On the other hand, the super team - Man City - finally succumbed. They were 2-1 down and 7 points adrift the league leaders Liverpool going into their final game of the year.

The league table is wide open now and Liverpool are poised nicely on top. But, it does not mean they are already the winner. The second half of the season will have much more exciting games. The games against revamped Manchester United, productive Arsenal, ever powerful Everton, Wolves, Watford could be tricky.

I am looking forward to the weekend games. Another exciting opportunity to witness the quality and will-power.
