Earlier, the motive for match-fixing were far more honorable, winning the title and a trophy, survival in the league, entry into higher rankings, advance to next round of European competition ... Today, this is done because of lots and lots of money.

Almost every serious game that is played on the planet is in a bookmaker's offer, and it is enough for players to send someone to pay a ticket for them. At first, there is nothing easier than fixing a football game. In ninety minutes you can do what you want, you have enough time for every turn. If the players of the match know what they want, they can easily setup the outcome. In fact, the match is not difficult to fix, but it's very hard to do it without anyone interrupting or not knowing in advance.

Bookmakers are mostly fleeing from fixed matches, because they can lose big cash out of them, but there are several ways that bookies can betray their investors depositors and make a big income.

Imagine the next scenario: Odds 1.50 on the favored team! Everyone is expecting a win. But suddenly, "accidentally" happens that the favored team plays badly and in that one game "a lot of people" lose their money, then all that money goes to the bookie ... And maybe some other players, referees, coaches ?!

In more cases, bookies are mentioned as intermediaries in match fixing! This is quite strange on the one hand, because it is known that all the world's big bookies have their own special teams that follow the events and rumors of the set matches, and these games block with reason for their system and no one can Bet.

It's rare that when the Champions League, Europa League or some of Europe's four strongest leagues are blocked, because they rarely find cases of fixing in such competitions.

However, the biggest threat to the bookmakers is played by lower league matches or matches from the weakly listed countries of Europe (Turkey, Norway, Sweden, Croatia ...). Bookies mostly block the matches from such leagues, but  on the matches from such leagues bookmakers can make the most profits. How?

  • In cases where there is a large number of ticket payments on a particular match, and a good number of people are waiting for a payout in only one game. Then it happens that the payment, if this hypothetical game passes, can be huge (in millions) which would mean a great loss for the bookies. In order to prevent enormous loss, bookie can pay some of that money to the favored team (from a hypothetical game), or to the referee, to the coach, in order to lose that match.

For example, if the match went through (the winning team wins), the bookies loses 10 million euros, and instead, the they decide that pay two millions to the favorite team to lose the match, and then the bookies will be in the plus of eight million euros (hypothetical money and size).

  • There is also a way that has a little deeper preparation. There is a potential match (also a favored and an outsider team) and instead of making the odds on the favorites one is small (1.15, 1.20), the so-called "gift odds" of 1.50, 1.70 happens, and the bettors put huge money on such matches. Bookies before the match can offer big money to potential teams and so the favorite loses the match again, and the money is again in the pocket of the football player, coach or referee and bookmakers.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sometimes, when the ideal results come in during the day, bookmakers are very frustrated because they are facing a huge loss. Then check all payments in the central database and it's easy to get information: if, say, Barcelona wins in the game, we are losing 5 millions. If they do not win, we are 6 millions in the plus. Then bookies gets in touch with the people from that club, they are offered a part of their income and the job is easy to get done.

Since the world's bookmakers have improved their offer and enabled live bets on their websites, another "high-tech" type of match fixing has been created. Namely, the point is that one club leads to the very end of the game, and when the odds on losing team becomes double-digit or three-digit, a huge amount of money is paid to it over the Internet. In the last few minutes the "winning team" will reverse the result and, we have a win.

The most well-known companies dealing with this business are extremely well connected with the clubs, some of them are advertised on the jerseys of the largest European teams ("Bwin" was the sponsor of Real Madrid, Milan and the Portuguese League, "Interwetten" had its club in the other Austrian league). This means that, when needed, they can affect the results of some matches.

So, don't be fooled and always double check every match you want bet on. Do detailed analysis and research over internet of those teams. Pick your bets wisely and good luck!
