In the first decade of 2000, football fans had the opportunity to enjoy some of the fantastic teams that I often remember with smile on my face. Back that we had Real Madrid Galacticos and their eternal rival Barcelona, on the Island Manchester United and Wenger's Arsenal, but in Italy, Juventus, Inter, Roma, Lazio and on top of all, Ancelotti's AC Milan.
Carlo Ancelotti won all he could as a player with Milan and was one of Milan's key players from the late 80s led by cult of Dutch trio Gullit - Van Basten - Rijkaard.
As a coach, Ancelotti also won it all with Milan. He was the champion of Italy, won the Cup, raised the title of the world club champion and "only" two Champions League (2003 and 2007). Let's just say that defeat in the now mythical Istanbul final against Liverpool is one of the biggest mysteries in the history of sport in general and according to every law of logic Milan won this title. Except what actually is not. Ancelotti is a great coach, he has shown in both Juventus, Chelsea, PSG, Real, Bayern. But equally important, it is important to say that in the 2001-2009 season it was fortunate that the club from San Siro had a miraculous generation.
Dida at the goal, Maldini left, Stam and Nesta as a centre back, Cafu at the right, in the center Pirlo, Seedorf and Gattuso, Kaka immediately behind the back of the attacker and in the attack Inzaghi and Shevchenko. What team, right?
In eight Milan's years of Carlo Ancelotti at San Siro, he had other great players, like Costacurta, Crespo, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Rui Costa, Ambrosini ... Costacurta was already a veteran, a sensible senator in the years, and two Brazilian wizards were slowly but surely stepping towards the end of their career and their episodes in Milan were negligible.
DIDA
One of the two goalkeepers in Milan's history who have been able to score more than 200 appearances, Dida won the Champions League twice - 2003 and 2007. The first title of the Champions League was won after defending three penalties against Juventus. He is also the first double winner of the FIFA World Club Championship, winner of the FIFPro Prize for the Year Goalkeeper and five times nominated for the IFFHS World's Best Goalkeeper Award. 2003. Dida became the first Brazilian goalkeeper nominated for the Golden Ball and was nominated for the second time in 2005.
PAOLO MALDINI
Paolo Maldini is one of the best defensive footballers of all time. As a kid he debuted in the first team of Milan and it was immediately clear that he was a footballer who would revolutionize the position of a defender in modern football. He was born on June 26, 1968 and started his career in Milan in 1985, where he stayed until 2009. In his honor club have withdraw jersey with number 3, until one day eventually his son dress it again. For Milan, he played 902 games, and the last line of defense he played with Baresi, Costacurta and Tassotti was considered one of the best in football history.
ALESSANDRO NESTA
Nesta was one of the best defensive footballers of his time. In pair with Cannavaro, he did the impenetrable wall of Italians at WC 2006, when the Italians became the world's for the fourth time. With Milan won two Champions Leagues, and with the exception of A Selection, the world champion was also with the junior team of Italy. At a press conference on May 10, 2012, he announced that he left Milan because he could no longer play at such a high level.
JAAP STAM
In1998 Sir Alex Ferguson get him for £ 10.6 million in Old Trafford from PSV, Stam was at that point the most expensive defensive player of all time. Immediately after arriving at the Man. United Stam won a triple crown and was also chosen as the ideal team of the Champions League. For three years playing at Old Trafford, he took the title of England three times and all three times he was selected into the ideal team of the Premiership. Ferguson then sent him to Lazio considering that the Dutchman did best, but afterwards, the famous Scotch admitted that Stam's sale was one of the biggest mistakes he made in his career. After the 2004 European Championship, Stam moves to Milan. He conquers the Italian Super Cup, but loses the historic final of the Champions League against Liverpool. In early 2006, Stam announced his return to the Eredivisie and signed a two-year contract with Ajax, where he completed his career.
CAFU
For many the best right back in history of football. He is the only player in history who has played in the three finals of World Cup in a row. He played against Italians (1994) and Germans (2002), and lost against France in 1998. With Roma won the title of Italy's 2001 champion which launched him to San Siro. During the five years of playing in Milan he won everything, including the two Champions League. He retired in 2008.
ANDREA PIRLO
Inter has brought Pirlo from Brescia for only two million, and in three years Andrea has played for only 22 games for Inter. He spent most of his time on the loans in Reggina and Brescia, and then in 2001 Milan paid 18 million. For the city's rivals Pirlo played for 10 years, with them he won two Champions League and was recognized as one of the best midfielders of the modern age. In the 2006 with national team he won title of the world champion. He signed for Juventus in 2011 and won four Serie A titles until he moved to USA.
CLARENCE SEEDORF
As one of the top quality products of the famous Ajax School, he debuted at the official league match on November 29, 1992 against Groningen when he was only 16 years and 242 days and became the youngest debutant in Ajax history. He was one of the key players during European campaign in 1995, and after a short episode in Sampdoria, Real Madrid signed him. With him in the team, the Royal Club in 1998 returned the European title after the full 32 years, and in 1999 he went to Inter who paid 24.3 million for Dutchman. He played two great seasons, but Inter swap him with Francesca Coco from Milan. Seedorf is the only player in history who won the Champions League with three different clubs.
GENARO GATTUSO
His career began in Perugia in 1994. Back there he did not play for three years and later was sold to Glasgow Rangers. During his play in Scotland, he also met his future wife. The club coach became Dick Advocaat, Gattuso moved first to the bench, from where he rarely came in, and then moved to another club. It was Italian Salernitana. The price of that transfer was three million pounds. Ten months later, Milan was looking forward to the reinforcement. Since then, only the hellish fighting Gattuso has progressed more and more in the "playing" of football, since he had the task of moving forward in Milan and instead of stopping the opposing attacks and drawing the ball from his own part, he increasingly participated in the creation. Over time, he became an irreplaceable player of Milan and the national team with which he won the title of the World Champion in 2006.
KAKA
Even as a teenager he impressed the world in the Sao Paulo jersey. He was wanted by Real Madrir, right at the time when the they started with the idea of Los Galacticos, and the legend says that the Madrid administration had given up the already agreed transfer allegedly because of its name - Kaka - because the Royal Club had to think of its reputation. If true, then Real made one of the biggest nonsense in the history of football because Brazilian imposed himself in six years playing at San Siro as one of the finest players in the world. In the end, he is the last football player who won the Golden Ball (2007) before the era of Messi and Ronaldo. Real tried to redeem in 2009 and paid £ 56 million, but that was not the old Kaka. Injuries have done their own. In the four years at the Bernabeu, he was sitting on the bench more than he was playing and he tried to revive his career in returning to San Siro 2013. It was not bad, but the magic has disappeared.
ANDRIY SHEVCHENKO
In young Ukrainian Silvio Berlusconi saw the successor of Van Basten, the man who will return the club from San Siro to the top of Europe. In those seven years (1999-2006), Shevchenko was one of the best attackers in Italy. Immediately upon his arrival at San Siro he was the best striker in Serie A, and the same season he was named the best player. With Milan he won everything a player can win - from Scudetto to the Champions League. In 2004 he won the biggest individual prize - the Golden Ball. As a great friend of Roman Abramovich, Schevchenko agreed for 30.6 million pounds to replace the San Siro with Stamford Bridge. The start at Chelsea was just what he wanted, but it was just an illusion. Jose Mourinho did not want him. He was not in the plans of Mourinho, and later same with Scolari. It was the result of injury and apathy, and he was not even the shadow of the player like he was in Milan. He decided to return to Milan, but it was late. One big career was over and it was clear to everyone.
FILIPPO INZAGHI
Today it is terribly difficult to explain to younger generations what player was Inzaghi. As an attacker, he has never been a defender, nor possessed some impressive speed and precision. There was no dribble, and we felt that half of his career he spent in the offside. But again, he was a player, a scorer that was rarely born. He was so special that he was able to score from any opportunity. Inzaghi had an unmistakable instinct and at all the time was where he had to be. Milan in the Champions League final 2007, defeated Liverpool, revenge in the Istanbul final, and both goals scored was by Inzaghi. He scored hundreds of goals in his career. With Juventus, he was the champion of Italy and with Milan he won everything. With the national team he won the World Cup 2006 and European Silver 2000.
I would love to see Milan strong like this is near future, but I fear that this kind team can never be repeated. European competition are not so attractive without strong Milan. I hope you enjoyed reading this article. Soon I will prepare more article like this. Thanks for reading and support.
