Tottenham's Mauricio Pochettino is unsure of new signings ahead of new season

Ahead of the new English Premier League season – a league which is highly famous for being very competitive, Tottenham Hotspurs manager has hinted that he is uncertain if his club will be making any new signings this very summer, despite having to compete in four competitions this season.

The news might come as a bit of a shock to so many Tottenham fans – and perhaps other rival cubs too – as well as English fans hoping to see English teams have a better season while competing on the European front.

Now while lots of clubs and managers are actively busy in the transfer market, in order to fortify themselves for the new season, a team that finished 3rd and qualified for the UEFA Champions league might not feature in the transfer market this summer.

Given the fact that the transfer market closes quite earlier than usual this summer, precisely on the 9th of August for all Premier League sides, the lack of transfer activity of one of England’s representatives in the Champions League might worry fans of the Premier League

Pochettino who was speaking ahead of his teams’ fixture on Wednesday against AC Milan in a pre-season friendly in the United states, said I don't know if we are going to sign or not. We're working on that. I cannot tell you if we're going to sign one, zero, two or three or four."

The 46-year old Argentine added that "We are working. It's true it's so close, the transfer window is so close, but the club's doing everything to help the team and add some players, more quality, and try to help us in the season to achieve what we want."

The former Southampton manager, who joined Tottenham Hotspurs in 2014 has been able to lead the club to a fifth, third, second and third-placed finishes in the premier league since he took charge four seasons ago on the 27th of May, 2014.

Tottenham’s defeat to Manchester United in the FA Cup Semi-final back in April raised uncertainty over his future after he reportedly said that Tottenham would "need more time with me or another" to propel the club. However, Pochettino went on to sign a new five-year contract a month later.

Since then, the Argentine has been in charge and has overseen the clubs pre-season exertions despite earlier suggestions that he could have taken over from Zinedine Zidane as Real Madrid manager, in the wake of the Frenchman leaving the Santiago Bernabeu at the season of last season.

But with a limited transfer activity by the London club ahead of the new season, Tottenham may struggle to cope with competing on all four fronts, in terms of the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup, and League Cup.

Following a vote by the top-flight teams in the league, the transfer window for the Premier League closes before the start of the new season, but would remain open for other European clubs until the usual August 31st deadline.

So, it now begs the questions,

* And seeing as other continental European sides can still sign players till August 31st deadline, how would Premier league sides cope in European competitions if their players get poached by continental opponents?
