Real Madrid are planning an overhaul of their squad this summer with boss Zinedine Zidane looking to bridge the gap to their rivals.

Zidane, according to Spanish outlet AS, has 'sat down with his bosses' to identify five players he wants to acquire this summer in a spending spree close to £460million.

The Galactico era has become a thing of the past over previous windows, but now the club are willing to bankroll a major transfer spending spree upon Zidane's return to the club that will see them spend more this summer than they have on 23 signings in the past five years. The report details how the Frenchman wants Manchester United's Paul Pogba, Chelsea star Eden Hazard, Tottenham playmaker Christian Eriksen, Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele and Frankfurt's Luka Jovic.

The big issue for Real is that the players they are monitoring will not be available cheaply - which is an issue while the club also try and finance their rebuild of the Bernabeu.

They have already signed Porto defender Eder Militao for £43m and are showing no signs of concluding their business with that move. Militao has signed a six-year deal at the Bernabeu, with Madrid confirming he has committed his future to the club until 2025.

Hazard is considered the most likely arrival given his contract with Chelsea expires in 2020.

But even with a year left on his deal, the west London club will not be parting with the Belgian on the cheap and could hold out for a fee around £95m.

Tottenham's creative midfielder Eriksen also sees his current contract expire next year and is another Real will feel is a realistic option. Daniel Levy and Tottenham are fierce negotiators in the transfer market and AS say that the Premier League side want £85m for the Denmark international.

Pogba has long been linked with a switch to Real Madrid in recent months, not least to link up with fellow Frenchman Zidane after he returned to the top job at the Bernabeu.

The United midfielder has divided opinion in Manchester of late but having paid £89m to bring him back from Juventus, the club would be looking for a sizeable profit on one of their most marketable assets. Pogba's staggering wages could prove an issue with so many players wanted by the club to revolutionise the side this summer.

Pogba earns £15million a year at Old Trafford and is one of the best paid players at the club.

Any move to Real would take a serious chunk off their wage bill and those in charge at the Bernabeu are starting to have doubts.

Pogba's French compatriot Ndombele is another to have caught the eye in Madrid with his reputation soaring following a fine campaign with Lyon.

The tall and strong central midfielder looked assured in the Champions League in games against Manchester City and has been viewed in some quarters as a long-term replacement for reigning Ballon d'Or winner Luka Modric, who turns 34 in September. In order to fund such a summer outlay, the club need to raise funds through sales with Gareth Bale, James Rodriguez and Mateo Kovacic 'earmarked to an exit' to free up spots in the first-team squad.

Bale has struggled to win over the club's supporters and finds himself routinely jeered while both Rodriguez and Kovacic have already departed the club on loan deals.

The reports in Spain also suggest the club will raise funds through a new kit deal with adidas which 'will raise Madrid 100m euros a year' to bolster hopes of a summer rebuild.

Real Madrid were knocked out of the Champions League by Ajax in the last-16 and are currently sat 18 points behind champions Barcelona in La Liga this season.
