Manchester United are back in the Champions league after a 2-0 win against Leicester on the final day of the Premier League season. At one point in January, United were 14 points off Leicester and yesterday they beat Leicester and are at a well deserved 3rd spot for the way they've stuck as a team and played the second half of the season. Bringing in Bruno for 45 million, has been a bargain for what he's offered to this team. Apart from having 8 goals and 7 assists in his 14 games in Premier League which are just brilliant stats, he's changed the players around him and has really been a big boost and one of the most important pieces of the puzzle Ole is trying to put together.

It was indeed a very nervous affair at least for the first half at the King Power stadium, as United looked sloppy, lethargic and just a little to late to play in the final third. After what seemed to be a hair dryer treatment by Ole in the changing room, United showed some urgency and upped their tempo. It all could've gone wayward after Jamie Vardy's header hit the post, but luckily for United it went out after hitting the post.

Bruno scored from the spot to make it 1-0, after Tony Martial was bought down in the penalty area after a mistimed tackle from the ex-united man Jonny Evans, before Lingard sealed the victory for The Red's on the 97th minute which probably could've been the last kick of the game, after a red card to Evans for a late, nasty tackle on McTominay.

Talking points!

A nervy match!

Manchester United could have done with a draw, but Leicester had to win to qualify for the Champions league, as a result they looked more energetic and fast as compared to United. First half they had a few chances, pressed high, winning second balls and putting pressure on Matic, Maguire and Lindelof. United defenders coped up with that pressure pretty well, there were few scares as they sometimes lost possession in important areas but were lucky to not get punished. At the start of the second half, United started off well, lost their tempo again but handled the pressure from opposition really well. Matic and Lindelof had an amazing second half, after the first goal United were in complete control, made a few substitutions and after Lingard goal the match was sealed off. It was just the type of match everyone was hoping for, not a perfect game for United but they came out well and that is what matters.

We need depth.

Ole has been playing the same team for quite a good amount of time now, and the matches were coming thick and fast. Due to lack of depth in the squad, he could not rotate as every game became a must win game to finish in top 4. Against Leicester too, United were sloppy in their passing, the first half was without any energy, Bruno looked tired, same for Pogba and Marcus, Matic was very average in the first half but looked lively in the second. For any good team to succeed, they should have a strong bench to rotate and keep everybody fresh. United are lacking that, and after finishing in the CL spot, recruitment should not be that difficult.

Bruno is a wizard!

This man has completely changed this football club since his signing in January. He is the third player this season to score 10 goals across all competitions and he's just played half the season. He also has the record for most goals involvements since joining in January by any player in the PL history. In yesterday's match he looked tired, was not in the best of his forms, but scored the crucial penalty to give United the lead. Big match, big player, big occasion and he's shown nerves of steel to slot it home.

United need to learn to finish important games off!

United have been defeated twice in two semi-finals this season, and this match was more of a final and they came out on top. The progression is clearly visible for this team, Ole and his staff are doing brilliant work, the mentality and robustness shown to finish off yesterday's match showed us exactly that. Europa league is next, by having qualified already, there won't be too much pressure but this is the trophy United should target and try to win. There's nothing more satisfying and a confidence booster for a young team and their manager to win silverware.

Champions league is back at Old Trafford!

From being 14 points off and 6th placed in January to finishing 3rd, it has been heck of a journey for Ole and his squad. They've fought hard, worked very hard and they deserve every bit of it. Ole deserves a lot of credit for the work he's done, believing in the players when thing's weren't exactly going their way. They hit a rough patch with injuries to Pogba who was out for 7 months, Marcus for 5 months, Martial and McTominay for 2 months each. With almost all of their most important players out for pretty long time, he's finished 3rd which is commendable. The players and the manager have earned their right to play in the UCL next season.

What's Next!

Manchester United host LASK on 6th of August for their second leg Europa match. United have won the first leg away with a comfortable 5-0 lead and they will easily stroll into the quarter finals. Winning that competition is the next focus of Ole and his team. A few days of well deserved rest and The Red's go out again.

That's all for this post, until then stay safe!

Cheers!
