While Spain changed the head coach just one day before the World Cup started, Argentina may do it during the tournament. At least that is what many players of the team now want, according to the Argentine media.

As they report, after the defeat against Croatia Lionel Messi and some of his teammates asked the national federation to sack the head coach Jorge Sampaoli. The players want to play the remaining group match with Nigeria under the 1986 world champion Jorge Burruchaga, who is currently the national team manager.

However, the immediate Sampaoli’s resignation may cost a lot of money for the national football federation. The coach took charge of the team last year, and his contract is valid until 2022, so the federation will have to pay 17 million euros of compensation. Is this money worth the last attempt to save the team’s face at the World Cup?
