The German champions Bayern Munich would like to sign a contract with the French player Florian Thauvin.

Bayern reportedly see the 25-year-old as a potential successor to his fellow countryman Franck Ribery, who is expected to leave the club next year.

Ribery, who is now 35, has been playing at Munich since 2007 when he moved from Marseille. At the end of the last season it was not clear whether the Frenchman would continue at Bayern, but eventually he signed a one-year contract extension.

Thauvin, who was a member of France's World Cup winning squad this summer, currently tops the scoring charts of Ligue 1 with six goals.
