In their Champions League game against AEK Athens, Bayern Munich can not rely on Franck Ribery. The 35-year-old veteran did not fly to Greece because of some muscular problems with his back.

The Frenchman has played six games in the current Bundesliga season, but was an unused substitute during Bayern's latest game against Wolfsburg (3-1) last Saturday.

"It didn't make sense to take him to Athens, because a trip is an extra pressure, so it was better for him to stay in Munich," said Bayern's CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.
