Many footballers use this dried tobacco produced in Sweden: it is a real drug and the substance has come to the top of the news during the European Championships of 2016, when Jamie Vardy was photographed with his can of snus.

It has been banned in most countries of Europe since 1992 because of its links with carcinogenic diseases. Snus" is a drug that is taken between the upper lip and the gingiva allowing for a form of instantaneous excitation. It is, to all intents and purposes, a doping substance, the sale of which should only be legal in Sweden because it is a product typical of those places. Sportsmail spoke about this new phenomenon, and has made an excellent report on this new form of "doping" that is spreading especially among the players who play in England. According to the Daily Mail, the average cost is £8 per pack, with single portions having an average of 27.3 mg of nicotine versus 10 mg of a cigarette.

Players from some clubs were found in possession of "snus" and were fined up to 10,000 pounds (about 11,500 euros), and many coaches confessed how many athletes assume it during or just before the games. A source of Sportmails has revealed that at the time of consumption it is like a puncture with a release of large amounts of nicotine in your mouth and as the nicotine descends to your throat, the effect is similar to what you feel when you smoke. That's why athletes who use it stay away from cigarettes.

In England it is illegal because, at the present moment, it's on the list of the World Anti-Doping agency. Footballers such as Jamie Vardy, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Jamaal Lascelles have admitted to use it and, even, the striker of Leicester and England in his autobiography of 2016 has admitted that the use of snuse among players it's spreading. It would be interesting to understand how controls are avoided both in the purchase and in the assumption, but these answers can only be provided to us only by the competent authorities.
