After Argentina were eliminated from the World Cup in the Last 16, their coach Jorge Sampaoli was widely expected to be fired.

His tactical choices and leadership qualities were seriously questioned during the tournament - many people even claimed that Lionel Messi was the real Argentina boss, and not Sampaoli.

However, the national federation decided that Sampaoli would stay in charge of the team - at least for now. He has a contract running until 2022, and in case of its early termination, the federation would have to pay eight million dollars of compensation.

Now Sampaoli has been tasked to take charge of the Argentine U-20 team at the COTIF L’Alcudia tournament later this month. And following that competition, the coach’s future at the helm of the national team will be reviewed once again.
