FC Barcelona’s 2-0 win against Sevilla left some good sensations on both the team and their fans. The two gave a great performance but the Blaugranas came on top with goals from Dembele and Messi. Koeman came out with a surprise lineup. He switched from the traditional 4-3-3 to a 3-5-2, giving Dest a new approach as more of a winger than a right back and moving Mingueza to his prominent position as a centre back.

This new lineup gave Barça a better defensive approach by having two defensive midfielders, Busquets and De Jong, recovering the ball in the center of the pitch as well as assisting Pique when required. It also gave Barcelona a boost in attack by having both Alba and Dest more as wingers than left and right backs.

Barcelona’s advantage came at the 29’ of the game after Messi assisted Dembele who scored with his left foot. The Catalan’s dominated the first half and went to the 15 minute break with an advantage. Sevilla came out on the second half looking stronger, but their best moment came after the substitutions of Rakitic and de Jong for Rodriguez and Torres, respectively, at the 63’ of the game. Sevilla had Barça against the ropes until the 85th minute of the game when Messi, in combination with Ilaix (read more about this youngster on my previous article about him), scored the second and last goal of the game.

The men led by Lopetegui have a lot of work to do for their upcoming Copa del Rey game against FC Barcelona. Sevilla have an important 2-0 lead in the cup tie, but have we seen the formula for a Blaugrana comeback? Lets stay tuned and we will have the answer on March 3 when they go against each other one more time.
