If you look at the Bundesliga matchday at the weekend from the perspective of the reigning champion Bayern Munich, you could almost sit back and rest satisfied.

Bayern themselves convincingly won their own home game on Saturday 3-1 against Schalke 04, and after the away win in the DFB Cup round of the last sixteen at Hertha BSC they were able to clinch their second important triumph this week.

Bayern attacker Robert Lewandowski with his double pack against Schalke seems to have shown that he can also be reckoned with in the second half of the season and he is once again on fire to win the trophy of the best scorer.

And also the results of the other top teams give the record champion some more reason to hope. Especially the match between the table leader Borussia Dortmund and TSG Hoffenheim.

Dortmund had already led 3:0, only to be accept a 3:3 draw after 90 minutes. A draw that feels like a defeat to the BVB, because when you play for the championship, you can't give away such a clear lead. And now Bayern has again regained two points and are only five points behind Borussia Dortmund.

And also the second Borussia from Mönchengladbach had to shed feathers on this matchday. Hertha BSC was visiting and the Berliners have kicked out the former runner-up with 3:0 from their own stadium. Before this game Mönchengladbach himself was even still traded as a championship candidate, even they are now still on 3rd place in the table, such considerations seem suddenly quite far-fetched.

And also the table fourth RB Leipzig did not get beyond a 0:0 draw in his home game against Eintracht Frankfurt. I had discussed this match in detail in my match preview and actually expected more from both teams. Not only that I had bet at Betscorum.com on a home win of Leipzig, but also that Frankfurt's top offense left this game empty handed, surprised me very much.

But one's sorrow is another's joy, and after this match day Bayern were the team to thank the opponents of their immediate rivals. They could once again reduce their own gap to the table leader and at the same time the other top teams left important points behind and are now more clearly behind the team from München.

Nobody can complain about a lack of excitement in the Bundesliga this season. The race for the championship is still far from being decided, and even though Borussia Dortmund still has a 5 point lead, this is not a sure buffer at all. There are still 13 matches to go, on which a lot can still happen and certainly will.

So let's look forward to the next matchday, when Borussia Dortmund will have to play in Nürnberg and Bayern in Augsburg. On the paper for both teams actually easy tasks. But what seems to be really easy this season?
