5-1 against Lisbon!
When the fans watched the Champions League game in the Allianz Arena on Tuesday evening, they could easily forget that the critics had been writing for weeks about an ongoing crisis of FC Bayern München.
Like at best times, the offense of the German record champion whirled and did not let the Portuguese record champion Benfica Lisbon the ghost of a chance.
Finally, a convincing victory in front of their own crowd, which should also strengthen the Bayern trainer Niko Kovac. Recently the discussions about his position had grown louder and louder, but even President Uli Hoeneß was more than satisfied with the team and the coach after the match.
Now we could easily tend to talk about a football gala, but probably we shouldn't really overestimate the match against Lisbon. Too much has gone wrong in Munich in recent weeks, and even the club superiors have not really been very smart.
But on Tuesday evening the 70,000 spectators didn't care about that, they could finally see their team playing the football they had expected the whole season.
Bayern presented itself united and full of energy and Robben quickly brought his team on the road to victory. His two goals in the 13th and 30th minute were what most people in the stadium were longing for. Lewandowski in the 36th minute scored his 50th goal in the European premier class and made clear that this night only one team was going to win.
Before half time München could have even scored again, but then it was Lisbon's Fernandes, who could shorten shortly after the break.
But Bayern was hungry and had Lewandoski, who restored the old difference with his second goal in the 51st goal. And we can expect some more goals from the Polish in Champions League, as hungry as he always plays.
Franck Ribery then added the final score in the 76th minute and brought the local fans to an endless cheer.
We haven't been able to see so much red-white bliss for a long time and now I am wondering whether Bayern can take this momentum with them into the Bundesliga.
The next game is in Bremen and it wouldn't be really surprising if the German champion had problems in the Bundesliga again.
Against Lisbon Bayern was convincing and clearly the better team, but especially at the beginning of the game it was clear to see the lack of courage and ideas.
And the most important highlights were set by an veteran, who many experts had already written off. But with his two classy goals, Robben showed once again that he can still be reckoned with and how important he is for the team.
At that game in München Bayern was finally able to shine again, which was partly due to the reserved way the guests from Lisbon were playing.
But the hosts and their fans didn't care in the end, and they quickly started conjuring up better times again.
There are still some rough days to come and the next weeks will first have to show that München can really get back on the winning track.
