While they were included in the 30-man list along side England’s captain Harry Kane, Uruguayan players Diego Godin, Edison Cavani and Luis Suarez, Argentine Sergio Aguero, Belgian Kelvin De Bruyne, Brazilian forward Roberto Firmino, Spain’s Isco, Belgian captain Eden Hazard, France midfield maestros Paul Pogba and N’Golo Kante, Croatian forward Mario Mandzukic, France goal porchers, Kylian Mbappe, Kareem Benzema and Antoine Griezmann, Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah, Brazilian players Marcelo and Neymar, Wales attacker Gareth Bale, Belgian shot stopper Thibaut Courtois, Croatian box-to-box midfielders Ivan Rakitic and Luka Modric, Senegalese striker Saido Mane, France captain Hugo Lloris and Slovenian goal keeper, Jan Oblak.
In an amusing turn of event, the list was limited to three slots which favors France Football lovers as it includes both Raphael Varane and Kylian Mbappe who will join a triumvirate with Modric to battle for the prestigious accolade.
LUCA MODRIC
Having won the FIFA Men’s player award, Luca Modric has emerged as the top favorite to win after his champions league victory with Real Madrid and finishing second best with Croatian in Russia.
RAPHAEL VARANE
Varane also has a share of dominance when it comes to cup victories, as he joined Modric alongside his teammates to lift the Champions league and as well the World Cup with France.
KYLIAN MBAPPE
Mbappe was highly impressive as well after making his mark at the World Cup and playing the pivot role in his current club but has been considered the least favorite to win this.
This is perhaps the first time since 10 years we would see faces without having either Ronaldo and Messi but we are rest assured that it may not be the end of their reign.
Albeit, question remains if both players will come cheer one of the players who will be emerged as the winner as both players jointly missed the FIFA award despite being listed among FIFA Men’s best 11.
