Two talented young players became victims of the 19th Serie A match between Rome and Juventus at the Olimpico on Monday (1/13/2020) early morning hrs. Nicolo Zaniolo and Merih Demiral left the match in injury conditions.

Juventus managed to beat Roma with a score of 2-1 in the match. Thus, 'The Old Lady' is entitled to the status of campione d'inverno aka winter champion Serie A.

Juventus' first goal in the party was scored by Demiral in the 3rd minute. Paulo Dybala's mature pass from a free strike was successfully struck by the Turkish defender to break into Pau Lopez's goal.

However, before the 20th minute, Demiral must be carried off the field. After doing an air duel, the 21-year-old boy landed hard in the wrong position. His place was then replaced by Matthijs de Ligt.

De Ligt's entry was then disastrous for Rome. Because, in the 36th minute, the Dutchman tackling made Zaniolo had to be pulled out because of injury.

After the match Rome announced that Zaniolo suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury plus damage to his right knee meniscus. The 20-year-old player will undergo surgery on Monday (1/13) local time.

Meanwhile, it is not yet known exactly how severe the injury to Demiral. However, Juventus coach Maurizio Sarri did not look optimistic after the match. According to Sarri, Demiral's injury was potentially serious.

"Demiral sprained and we will not know anything until tomorrow morning. However, we feel that the injury is serious," Sarri said in a post-match press conference.

For Roma and Juventus, the loss of Zaniolo and Demiral is certainly a major blow. Because, the two young players managed to show an impressive appearance this season.
