WEEK 13 RECAP

Week 13 of the Premier League produced 27 goals and only 6 clean sheets. Let’s find out what awaits us in Matchday 14.

There are still two unbeaten teams with both Man City and Liverpool yes to lose. Chelsea lost their unbeaten start to the season losing to Tottenham last time out and it will be interesting to see how much longer the top two keep their runs going. At the bottom Huddersfield have picked up some form with two wins and a draw from their last three games to climb to 15th while Crystal Palace, Burnley and Southampton have all been dragged into what should be an interesting relegation battle this season! Matchday 14 presents us with two mouthwatering derby games both on Sunday. First it is the North London derby between Arsenal and Tottenham followed by the Merseyside derby of Liverpool and Everton.

WEEK 14 PREDICTIONS

Cardiff v Wolves

Courtesy of BBC Sports

Kickoff: Fri Nov, 30 - 20:00 - Cardiff City Stadium

Matchday 14 begins on a Friday with Cardiff hosting an out of form Wolves. Last time out the Bluebirds were narrowly beaten 1-0 away at Everton and will be looking to rebound with 3 points this week. Wolves have completely lost their early good form losing four of their last five PL games. Last weekends 2-0 home loss to lowly Huddersfield came as a shock and they will need to get back to winning ways quickly. The Premier League can be an unforgiving league and it is easy to get dragged into a relegation fight.

This is an ideal game for Cardiff playing at home against a team lacking confidence. Expect the Bluebirds to pile on the pressure and for it to be a physical game. We expect the home side to take advantage and record a valuable 3 points adding to Wolves terrible recent form.

Our Prediction: Home Win: Cardiff (2-1)

Crystal Palace v Burnley

Courtesy of BBC Sports

Kickoff: Sat Dec, 1 - 15:00 - Selhurst Park

This could be considered a 6-pointer as both these teams are dangerously close to the relegation zone (16th and 17th respectively). Last time out the Eagles secured a valuable away point at Old Trafford against Man Utd while Burnley lost 2-1 at home to lowly Newcastle. Both these sides have squads capable of avoiding the drop and they will both be looking for 3 points here.

This should be a close and physical game with few chances. Expect either a 0-0 or score draw which really helps neither team in climbing the table.

Our Prediction: Draw (1-1)

Huddersfield v Brighton

Courtesy of BBC Sports

Kickoff: Sat Dec 1 - 15:00 - John Smiths’ Stadium

Huddersfield have come into form recently picking up 7 points from a possible 9 in their last 3 games. Another home game provides an opportunity to build on that and push them further away from the relegation zone. Last time out they recorded an impressive 2-0 away win at Wolves. Brighton are ticking along in 12th place and have had mixed results recently. Last time out they could only draw 1-1 at the Amex playing most of the game against 10 men Leicester.

The Terriers will see this as another opportunity to pick up another vital 3 points while the Seagulls are not the best travelers. Expect this to be a close game with Huddersfield edging it and continuing their good form.

Our Prediction: Home Win: Huddersfield (1-0)

Leicester v Watford

Courtesy of BBC Sports

Kickoff: Sat Dec, 1 - 15:00 - King Power Stadium

This game pits 9th and 10th in the table. Leicester remain unbeaten since the death of their owner while Watford have only picked up 1 point from their last 3 games. Last time our the Foxes drew 1-1 at Brighton and could have easily took all 3 points, playing the majority of the game with 10 men. Watford suffered a 3-0 home defeat to unbeaten Liverpool and will want to get back to winning ways.

This should be an open game with plenty of chances. Both sides normally play with two up front so this game will likely be won in midfield. We expect Leicester just to edge this one and leapfrog their opponents.

Our Prediction: Home Win: Leicester (2-1)

Man City v Bournemouth

Courtesy of BBC Sports

Kickoff: Sat Dec, 1 - 15:00 - Etihad Stadium

Unbeaten Man City welcome Bournemouth to the Etihad on Saturday looking to claim another 3 points and put pressure on Liverpool. Man City currently sit 2 points clear at the top of the table and last time out they comfortably beat West Ham away 4-0. Goals never seem to be their problem and they have tightened up alot in defence this season. The Cherries on the other hand suffered their third defeat on the bounce losing 2-1 at home to Arsenal. This really isn’t the game they would want to stop the rot!

Expect as always this to be on way traffic with most of the chances falling to the home side. We expect another comfortable with for Man City and a fourth defeat in a row for Bournemouth.

Our Prediction: Home Win: Man City (3-0)

Newcastle v West Ham

Courtesy of BBC Sports

Kickoff: Sat Dec, 1 - 15:00 - St James’ Park

Newcastle are another club that have hit some form recording three wins in a row and climbing to 13th in the table. Last time out they recorded an impressive 2-1 away win at Burnley. Another home game provides an opportunity for the Magpies to pick up another 3 points. West Ham meanwhile have one win in five and will also be looking for 3 points. Last time out they were well beaten 4-0 at home by current champions Man City.

This should be an entertaining game with both teams prone to errors in defence. We expect Newcastle to play on the front foot in order to get the toon army on side and this should be another 3 points.

Our Prediction: Home Win: Newcastle (2-1)

Southampton v Man Utd

Courtesy of BBC Sports

Kickoff: Sat Dec, 1 - 17:30 - St Marys’ Stadium

Southampton have been dragged into the relegation zone having collected just 3 points in the last five games. Last time out they were narrowly beaten 3-2 in an entertaining game against Fulham. Meanwhile Man Utd struggled to a dull 0-0 home draw against Crystal Palace and seem to be lacking confidence again. Pressure is on both teams to win but for different reasons.

The Saints will have to attack being the home side but this could play into the Red Devils hands with the counter attack. Expect a fairly open game with the first goal being the key to who wins this match. We expect Man Utd to claim the points which will likely result in Mark Hughes losing his job against the club he used to play for.

Our Prediction: Away Win: Man Utd (0-2)

Chelsea v Fulham

Courtesy of BBC Sports

Kickoff: Sun Dec, 2 - 12.00 - Stamford Bridge

Chelsea suffered their first defeat of the season last weekend losing 3-1 to Tottenham at Wembley. In truth they were never really in the game and looked quite tired. Fulham meanwhile recorded an important 3-2 home win against Southampton but still remain rooted to the bottom of the table. The Blues will be looking to get back to winning ways while Fulham will be looking to build on their last victory.

This should be a good game and while we think the home side will win Fulham could easily take advantage of Chelsea’s tiredness. They had to play in Europe in midweek and this could affect the outcome.

Our Prediction: Home Win: Chelsea (2-0)

Arsenal v Tottenham

Courtesy of BBC Sports

Kickoff: Sun Dec, 2 - 14:05 - Emirates Stadium

The first of two derbies this weekend is in North London where bitter rivals Arsenal and Tottenham do battle. Only 3 points separate the sides with Spurs in 3rd and the Gunners in 5th. Last time out Spurs ended Chelsea’s unbeaten record totally outlying them, winning 3-1, while Arsenal picked up a solid 2-1 win away at Bournemouth.

This should be a well contested game with chances at both ends. Derbies can always spill over due to the competitive nature and local bragging rights. We expect there to be goals in this game but honors even.

Our Prediction: Draw: (2-2)

Liverpool v Everton

Courtesy of BBC Sports

Kickoff: Sun Dec, 2 - 16.15 - Anfield

The final game of Matchday 14 sees the second derby with Liverpool hosting bitter rivals Everton at Anfield. The Toffees have failed to win at the Reds for 19 years and will be looking to put an end to that record. Liverpool are the only other unbeaten team in the league and last time out recorded a comfortable 3-0 win at Watford while Everton scrapped past Cardiff 1-0 at home.

This will be another highly contested match with Liverpool facing a much improved Everton team. Expect there tone alot of strong challenges but also alot of chances at both ends. We think Liverpool will extend their unbeaten run and make Everton wait on for that elusive win at Anfield.

Our Prediction: Home Win - Liverpool (3-1)
