WEEK 8 RECAP

Week 8 of the Premier League produced 26 goals and 7 clean sheets. Lets find out what awaits us in matchday 8.

After a two week international break we return to PL action this weekend with the top three teams still unbeaten this season (Man City, Chelsea and Liverpool), 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively. All three teams are tied on 20 points from from eight games with only goal difference separating them. Liverpool and Man City played out a nil-nil draw last time out allowing Chelsea to capitalize with a 3-nil away win at Southampton. It looks like it will be a three horse race this year. The standout game of the weekend is the early kickoff of Saturday lunchtime between Chelseas and Man Utd.

WEEK 9 PREDICTIONS

Chelsea v Man Utd

Kickoff: Sat Oct, 20 - 12:30 - Stamford Bridge

Matchday 9 kicks off with arguably the game of the weekend as Chelsea host Man Utd at Stamford Bridge. This is a big game for both teams but for different reasons. Chelsea will want to keep that unbeaten run going while Man Utd will want to make up points on the top three. Should they loose here they will already be 10 points behind the leading pack with a mountain to climb. Last time out the Red Devils had to come from two goals down at home to Newcastle and were fortunate to run out 3-2 winners. Chelsea cruised to a 3-nil away win at Southampton with Eden Hazard impressing again.

This will be a tight affair until the first goal goes in and then expect this to really open up. Chelsea will be too strong here and we expect them to collect the three points with Eden Hazard staring again and effectively putting an end to United's title chances even this early on.

Our Prediction: Home Win: Chelsea (2-1)

Bournemouth v Southampton

Courtesy of BBC Sport

Kickoff: Sat Oct, 20 - 15:00 - Vitality Stadium

The Cherries recorded an excellent win last time out putting 4 goals past 10 men Watford without reply at Vicarage Road. They sit 6th in the table with an impressive 16 points from 8 games played. The Saints on the other hand have struggled so far this season and lost 3-nil at home to Chelsea.

This is a South Coast derby so expect both teams to go for it here wanting to claim the bragging rights! Bournemouth play good attacking football at home and are a handful for any team while Southampton have struggled again in the final third this season. We expect the Cherries to pick up another win here.

Our Prediction: Home Win: Bournemouth (2-1)

Cardiff v Fulham

Courtesy of BBC Sport

Kickoff: Sat Oct, 20 - 15:00 - Cardiff City Stadium

Cardiff are on of three teams without a win so far this season and are rooted to the foot of the table. They will be looking to put that right against another newly promoted team Fulham on Saturday. Both teams have struggled so far to adapt to the gulf in class but both will have looked at this fixture as winnable. Even at this early stage this is a 6 pointer. Last time out both teams suffered defeat with Cardiff narrowly losing 1-0 to Tottenham while Fulham were on the back of a 5-1 home drubbing against Arsenal.

This will be a cagey affair with no team wanting to loose. Expect there to be few clearcut chances with the game ending in a score draw which will really help neither of them. Looks like it will be a long hard season for both teams.

Our Prediction: Draw (1-1)

Man City v Burnley

Courtesy of BBC Sport

Kickoff: Sat Oct, 20 - 15:00 - Etihad Stadium

The reigning champions remain top of the league on goal difference and threw away a golden opportunity to beat Liverpool last time out with Mahrez blazing a penalty over the bar late on. Burnley struggled to a 1-1 draw at home to Cardiff and will head in to this game expecting nothing.

This will be a one sided game with Man City always dangerous at home. For most teams it is a case of damage limitation and expect Burnley to play five at the back and try to play for a point. The problem is playing like this is hard to do for 90 minutes and once Man City score the floodgates can open. A comfortable home win on the cards.

Our Prediction: Home Win: Man City (3-0)

Newcastle v Brighton

Courtesy of BBC Sport

Kickoff: Sat Oct, 20 - 15:00 - St James’ Park

Newcastle are another team without a win this season and will feel extremely hard done by having been 2-0 up at Old Trafford only to loose 3-2. In reality they really should have got something out of the game. The Seagulls recorded a 1-nil home win against West Ham but are not the best travelers.

If Newcastle play anywhere near like they did last time out they could win this game by 4 goals. We expect them to finally pick up their first 3 points of the season with the toon army in full voice.

Our Prediction: Home Win: Newcastle (2-0)

West Ham v Tottenham

Courtesy of BBC Sport

Kickoff: Sat Oct, 20 - 15:00 - London Stadium

West Ham host Tottenham in one of many London derby’s on Saturday. Having started the season extremely poorly they have picked up in recent weeks but suffered a set back last time out losing 1-nil at Brighton. Spurs recorded a narrow 1-nil victory at Wembley against Cardiff and sit in 5th place having been leapfrogged by their bitter rivals Arsenal.

They will be looking to get back on track however the Hammers always seem to up their game against the top six sides. This will be an entertaining game however we expect it to end in a score draw. Spurs lack of summer signings will really affect their top four chances this season.

Our Prediction: Draw (1-1)

Wolves v Watford

Courtesy of BBC Sport

Kickoff: Sat Oct, 20 - 15:00 - Molineux

Wolves continued their excellent start to the season with a 1-nil away win at Crystal Palace. Of the three promoted teams they look the best equipped to not only survive but finish in a top 10 position this season. Watford’s form has started to turn after a great start to the season. Last time out they were hammered 4-0 at home to Bournemouth and now sit 9th in the table.

This will be an entertaining game. Wolves like to play football and have impressed in all their games playing the same way win, lose or draw. They always seem to create alot of chances particularly at home while Watford can be brilliant or terrible, there is no in between. We expect Wolves to continue their good form with another 3 points.

Our Prediction: Home Win: Wolves (2-0)

Huddersfield v Liverpool

Courtesy of BBC Sport

Kickoff: Sat Oct, 20 - 17.30 - John Smith's Stadium

Huddersfield are the third team yet to win this season and sit in the relegation zone. They welcome unbeaten Liverpool to the John Smith’s on Saturday hoping to pick up their first 3 points. Liverpool played out a goalless draw against Man City last time out while the Terriers picked up a well earned point at Burnley.

The Reds have some injury concerns ahead of this game however they have plenty of strength and depth with their squad. Liverpool will continue to play their high pressing game and while Huddersfield will want to attack in front of their home fans this will play straight into the hands of Liverpool. Expect them to pick the Terriers off with counter attacking football and run out comfortable winners.

Our Prediction: Away Win: Liverpool (0-3)

Everton v Crystal Palace

Courtesy of BBC Sport

Kickoff: Sun Oct, 21 -16:00 - Goodison Park

The only Sunday game features Everton against Crystal Palace. Last time out Everton recorded an impressive 2-1 away win at Leicester last time out while the Eagles seem to be stuck in a rut having lost 1-0 at home to Wolves. They have looked extremely inconsistent so far this season. This is an ideal game for Everton at home.

Expect the Toffees to attack Palace from the off and for this to be an open game. Palace rely so much on the effectiveness of Wilfried Zaha and when it doesn’t happen they tend to end up losing. We expect the home side to record a comfortable win and another 3 points here to add to Palaces misery.

Our Prediction: Away Win: Everton (2-0)

Arsenal v Leicester

Courtesy of BBC Sport

Kickoff: Mon Oct, 22 - 20:00 - Emirates Stadium

Arsenal entertain Leicester on Monday night football having recorded nine successive wins. They have actually achieved this by not playing that well and always look susceptible in defence. They now sit 4th in the table having leapfrogged their bitter rivals Tottenham. The Foxes slipped to a 2-1 home defeat at the hands of Everyone with Wes Morgan being sent off for the second time in three outings.

Should the Foxes los here as we suspect pressure will likely start to mount on Claude Puel’s position again. This will be an open game with goals however we just expect the Gunners to have too much for the Foxes and make it 10 wins in a row. Seems like it is a happy time to be a Gooner!

Our Prediction: Home Win - Arsenal (2-1)
