Its the women world cup and a lot of trivia situations has been the arguments hovering around. Well, the Nigeria vs France match came in hot as both sides struggled in defense and attack respectively.
This is a happy Moan Day contest organised by Pete. All hail scorum.
The 2019 women world cup host won their two group matches against Korea and Norway why Nigeria lost their opener against Norway and secured a win against Korea. Super falcons needed a win or a draw to increase their chances of qualifying for the next round but their loss needed verifying mathematical permutation to go through.
The Nigeria female team started the game with a fierce vibe as Oparanozie got the first attack of the game with a header. The rest became history for the super falcons as they couldn't secure another major threat. The French dominated the game from that moment onward. Having 22(4) shots, 532 passes, 85% accuracy and nine corners compared far above the super falcons 1(0) shots, 215 passes, 52% accuracy and 2 corners. However, they erupted quite a strong defence against the host as the first half ended in a goalless draw. The second half brought in mixed feelings as Ebere brought Asseyi down in the eighteen yards box. The French players and crowd howled for a penalty kick which the referee refused until the video assistant referees made the call for a proposed penalty kick to be taken. The referee had to go watch the replay and made a decision on the contact. Ebere was awarded her second yellow card in the match leading to a red card.
Renard missed from the spot kick and every Nigeria fan was happy just for VAR to cut short the joyous moment as the referee points for a retake as a result of the Nigerian keeper who had left her line before the kick was taken. Looking closely to the incident, Renard had already made contact with the ball before the goalkeeper came off her line. So many Nigerian fans were bittered as the French center back found the back of the net from the retaken penalty giving France a late lead. Nnadozie was quite unfortunate as an already missed penalty was retaken and scored to give the host a lead in the game. Though the super falcons did qualify from the best losers permutation, they could have avoided Germany who knocked them out of the tournament if they had squeezed a draw against the host.
Sad questions from a fan.
Did the referee award a penalty retake just because France was the host or is the racism syndrome still flying around. Don't get this twisted because we can't really tell.
Words Of Encouragement
Success of not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts - Winston Churchill. (To Nnadozie)
