It is one thing to be a tactical coach and another thing to have a good player-coach relationship. Nowadays, everybody wants to show authority and superiority. At this point, nobody wants to be used as the scapegoat who has inferiority complex.
Unai Emery is into his second season as manager with the club having replace Arsene Wenger but it looks like the Gunners have not improved much in their game play. Though it is debatable but the club still lacks set piece just like in times of Arsene Wenger. This was confirmed by former Arsenal player Robin Van Persie who said "I don't think so. I don't think that Emery really connects with his players. I think they're still weak on set pieces, that was back in my time still a problem to be honest. Everyone should feel responsible. Do you play zone or do you play man on man??? I think when you're struggling you should play man on man, because then you just pick your man then you are responsible for your man. It's a one on one fight. Last weekend they again conceded from a corner kick. I said it a couple of weeks ago as well, Arsenal lose 12-15 points per season by set pieces and that should stop. You have to sort it out, you have to find away." he said on BT Sport.
The Manager seems to be getting on the nerve of the club supporter too for his refusal to play Mesut Ozil in the game. The German player last feature for the club since September 2019 in a 5-0 victory over Nottingham forest during the Carabao cup tie. Ever since then, five matches have gone by where the 30 years old was not featured in. Technically, Ozil is a mechanical driven player who can create the set piece needed in a team. He can single handedly engineer link ups within that can spring up quality plays in a fashion style. Yet, Emery decided to send him to exile. His luck still runs as late Nicolas double eased pressure on him for now, but failure to beat Crystal Palace on Sunday would raise questions over his leadership again
The playmaker was spotted having a lengthy talk with the coach on Wednesday afternoon during training but no one knows what the discussion was all about but from facial expression, things did not look normal. Emery has proved not to always be in the mood for talks about Ozil, rather he digresses and picks another line of discussion to cover up.
The question still stands, is there any misunderstanding between the two?? Words from the manager states that the German player haven't been serious with training sessions and they've been no counter words from the player as all he had proven to do was send out words of luck to the team. This was captured in a tweet by the star player.
Moreover, fans sends out their message to the coach woth words singing “We’ve got Ozil, Mesut Ozil, I just don’t think you understand.” Maybe its time for the coach to take the hard step of calling up the player in his squad to face Crystal Palace this Sunday because if he fails to do so and the results continue to be inconsistent then the question of whether they are an improving side will be difficult to answer for the Spaniard.
What do you think????
