Tottenham - Wolverhampton

Chelsea and Leicester didn't win this week and just made battle for 3rd and 4th place more interesting. Few points behind them are Manchester United, Tottenham, Wolves and Sheffield United. Today on 15 o'clock CET at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium Tottenham and Wolves will decide who is staying in top 4 race and who is abandoning Champions League dreams. Welcome to Tottenham Hotspur - Wolverhampton Wanderers game preview.

Tottenham

Tottenham is not playing well in recent period. Main problem is build up of play with to few chances created. They easily lost London derby against Chelsea just like I thought and predicted. Before that they couldn't hold draw against Leipzig at home in Champions League. Spurs stand on 6th place with 40 points and 11-7-9 44 goals scored and 36 conceded. They are 5 points behind Chelsea who is 4th. This game is big opportunity to reduce this advantage to just 2 points. But question is can Spurs do that today ? Few days after this match they will have very important FA cup game against Norwich City at home. Then they will travel to Burnley and Leipzig after which they'll host Manchester United at home.

Wolverhampton

Wolves are playing nice this season. Spirito Santo's boys know how to play with against big clubs. Their counter attacks are devastating for anyone who tries to push them to their half. In my opinion they were better than Manchester United few weeks ago at Old Trafford. Wolves are on 8th place with 39 points and 9-12-6, 38 goals scored and 32 conceded. They have their own calculation from this game. In case of winning they will jump over Tottenham and reduce gap to Chelsea to just 3 points. In Next games they will host Brighton, then try to do what Arsenal couldn't which is to eliminate resilient Olympiacos squad from Europa League. They will also travel to London to play struggling West Ham. Schedule doesn't look to tough. In last game they lost against Espanol away, but they had to big advantage of 4:0 from first game, so that loss of 3:2 doesn't hurt much. Before that Wolves trashed Norwich City with 3:0.

Form

Tottenham is 8th on form table with 3-1-2 and 8:6, while Wolves stand on 9th place with 2-3-1 and 8:5. Here are last 6 results of those clubs from Premier League:

Tottenham

11.01.20. Tottenham - Liverpool 0:1 (0:1)

18.01.20 Watford - Tottenham 0-0 (Gazzaniga saved penalty deep in second half)

22.0120 Tottenham Hotspur - Norwich 2:1 (1:0) (a little bit of luck)

02.02.20 Tottenham Hotspur - Manchester City 2:0 (0:0) (big luck)

16.02.20 Aston Villa - Tottenham 2:3 (1:2) (Tottenham was better from 30th minute, but won in 90th after great mistake of Engels).

22.02.20 Chelsea - Tottenham 2:1 (1:0) (Easy win for Chelsea)

Wolves

11.01.20. Wolves - Newcastle 1:1 (1:1)

18.01.20. Southampton - Wolverhampton 2:3 (2:0)

21.01.20. Wolves - Liverpool 1:2 (0:1)

14.02.20. Manchester United - Wolves 0:0

20.02.20. Wolves - Leicester 0:0

23.02.20. Wolves - Norwich 3:0 (2:0)

Head to head

Since 2000 it's 6-2-3 22:15 for Spurs in London, but in recent period it looks like this:

15.12.2019 Wolverhampton - Tottenham 1:2

29.12.2018 Tottenham - Wolverhampton 1:3

03.11.2018 Wolverhampton - Tottenham 2:3

Before that they played in 2012 and those results are not relevant.

It looks like away side grabs points when those two clubs face each other. Last season Wolves played superb second half and scored 3 goals on counter attacks and grabbed all 3 points from London. In last encounter in Wolverhampton they were not worse, but lost game 1:2. because Verthongen converted himself into Super Ian near the end.

Sidelinded players

Tottenham will be without Son, Kane and Sissoko in this game which means Spurs will not have striker (target man) again. We'll enjoy in watching pathetic out of form Lucas jumping between 2 for two head taller players again on to far away crosses made by Aurier. :)

Wolves will be without Jonny Castro.

Conclusion

Without world class striker H.Kane and very good all rounder Son with only out of form Lucas acting as striker it's going to be hard for Spurs to win this game. Recent disagreements between Mourinho and Dele Alli, "non-fit" state of N'Dombele don't help either. Big problems on left and right sides of defense make me think away side will get something from this game. At the moment Lo Celso looks like the most in form player in Tottenham. On the other side Jimenez, Jota, Adama Traore and Joao Moutinho are very dangerous players. Wolves are devastating on counter attacks. I have no doubt they will score at least 1 goal in this game and that should be enough to get something from this game.

My opinion is this game will end in draw 2:2 and that Bergwijn will score first goal.
