Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano said famous three word phrase "Here we go" for transfer of Empoli goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario to Tottenham! Spurs were interested in bringing in Raya, but Brentford asking price of 40 million was to high for a player in last year of contract whose value is 20 million. Daniel Levy didn't want to overpay and Tottenham brought Empoli goalkeeper. I like to think Raya will also join Spurs next year as a free agent.
Vicario is taller than Raya which could be important for goalkeepers. I didn't hear for this shotstopper until now, but after watching some videos and listened opinion of Italian legend Ganluca Pagliuca I am more than turned on about this signing. Ex Parma goalkeeper said for Inter Siempre "Guglielmo is fantastic and if Onana leaves Inter I'd sign Vicario from Epoli to replace him!" If such expert says that who am I to disagree ?
All are saying he had great eeason in Empoli. Stats are showing he was better than Lloris in every aspect except in short passing. I saw all 38 goals he conceded in last season and find only 7 where he could do anything better. In those 7 ball either went through him or goal is consequence of bad ball deflection. On the other hand I also saw a lot of great saves by him. Lautaro Martinez was alone on 5m did header off the ground, but Guglielmo made incredible save to deny goal and left Inter striker in desperation and with face like this.
Save in which he denied Juventus star Chiesa was also very very good just like the one I chose for above picture. Guy have quality.
Another Italian legend Gianluigi Buffon said this about Tottenham new goalkeeper:
"Vicario is doing things out of the ordinary. He is extraordinary, he's the future of the national team. He is ready for the big leap. The time has come for him to become a revelation. He might become even better than me, he is generational.”
Some people are saying "Another cheap signing of target number 2 instead of paying for quality.", but I am happy with this. Real knowledge is to recognize great player who is not very expensive, but who can be great add on to squad. Cheap player whom experts describe like 'fantastic" are those I want in this club. I start to believe Tottenham board and chairman learnt something from the past or maybe read scorum blog where I wrote "Don't hijack players Everton want, watch what is Brighton doing and do that." Italian goalkeeper was on Brighton's wish list too. :)
Vicario signed 5 year deal until 2028, transfer fee was around 19 million and Tottenham dealt in fast and decisive way here. I like that! There is one more thing I like about this. It's his lastname which allows Tottenham fans to use "Antonio" melody for singing "Vicario, Vicario, Vicario, Vicario..." :)
There was one more deal which is permanent signing of Sweden international Dejan Kulusevski for 30 instead of 35 million. Right winger with North Macedonian origin will be Tottenham player in next 5 years too. Let's hope he can return to form he had in his first season and become beloved "ginger from Sweden who came from Juventus and who plays on the wing." He's young player and I am sure Ange can take the best out of him!
There are couple of new names in defense. All are players who are not very expensive but with very good stats which tells me that our Italian chief scout means real business this summer. Only worry thing is fact that no one show interest in some of our players we want to see out of our club. Let's hope that will happen in near by future.
