Well known Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano tweeted that despite reports from Argentina there is no release clause of 65 million in Romero's contract with Tottenham. He said some top clubs asked about him during the summer, but Spurs refused them considering Argentinian "untouchable" for now. I remember there was tweet during last transfer window about Real Madrid interest for Romero's price. According to this last tweet he didn't attract interest from just one but from multiple top clubs! Interesting is why is Argentinian press publishing this ? Who wants out is it he or those journalists who want to see him in bigger club now?
I was big fan of this player once he arrived until moment when some Spurs journalist published he blackmailed club by saying "I will consider my future in Tottenham if Antonio Conte remains the coach." I was silenced because I know Spurs journalists can lie for few quids and I was 100% sure it was in reality Eric Dier who I called ENIC Dialer, but "worm of doubt" in right mentality of Cutie Romero has been planted in my brain after I've read this! Stories from some fans about how he's saving himself in Spurs games before international breaks also added more doubts.
There is no doubt he is quality player and that he can attract interest from top clubs so there isn't reason to doubt in this what Fabrizio tweeted. It's surely truth! Question is this is it possible that these big money offers twisted his mind ? His last performance threw big question mark if he really is "the best defender in the world" like Messi said ?
His positioning on Brighton first and second goal looked to me just not right and him and one more player left Wellbeck (?!) to do tap in from inside of 5m ? I know Udogie wears massive guilty tag for Brighton two goals, with Bentancur's involvements in both of them, but could the best defender in the world be more aware of danger and track Wellbeck to be somewhere near him if some cross comes in or position better on first two goals ? Do I want too much if I expect defense lead by "the best defender in the world" not to concede more than 2 goals vs Brighon away ? It's top 10 but it isn't top 6 club! Why did Mitoma, Router and Wellbeck route us in second half ?
People are saying Romero is guilty for Vardies goal vs Leicester, but in reality for me it's 100% Sarr's goal Romero was marking man in the middle and expected Sarr or Porro to mark one on back post, but Sarr abandoned Vardy in that situation and Porro was nowhere near. People say it's his goal vs Arsenal, but he was pushed with two hands and referee didn't give a foul. He could be stronger in that situation, but for me it was foul play by Arsenal player Havertz which is becoming tradition in North London derbies. I have excuses for those games, but I have not for positioning and lack of effort we've seen in second half vs Brighton! Of course he was not alone in lack of effort and switching off vs Brighton. There were players worse than him on the day, but he's the best, he should be leader and commander in that defense, he should do better! All of this if that suspicious game was regular. If it wasn't he should come out and tell us who ordered stop playing of football in second half vs Brighton ?
I have no doubt his stats are still good, but I don't believe in stats but in what I see on the pitch. What do you think is it possible that big money offers by top clubs influence Cutie Romero and is this the reason for not so good performances this season ? I still love the guy, but expect better games from him in the future!
