Juan Foyth

After one of local derbies in my country, coach of completely over played and losing side said "We might lose the game, but we acquired great goalkeeper for future!" Situation was similar to last night's Champions League game between Bayern Munich and Tottenham with the exception we are not talking about goalkeeper but defender Juan Foyth.

Twenty one years old player born in Argentina was in my opinion very good in this game. He was good in seizing the ball from opponents, in blocking shots, in tackles and in passing. He also reacted very good couple of times on crosses from both sides where out of form players like Rose and KWP allowed to much space to Bayern.

Young Argentinian player with Polish ancestors and passport whose childhood hero was Rio Ferdinand impressed Spurs coach Jose Mourinho. Portuguese coach didn't give him chance to play until yesterday, but after the game said "I learnt a lot about Foyth". I guess that meant he is satisfied with performance of player who can play in center of defense and on right back position.

Journalists who follow Spurs say it's bad news for D. Rose, because Foyth's presence in center of defense could mean Ian Verthongen is available on left back where he will probably secure his position. He might be in age, but compared to Rose who repeats shocking performances over and over again he looks like superman. Bad passes, bad clearing of ball which lead to conceding second goal, giving to much space to Bayern players on left side by running in center of defense for no reason that was D. Rose yesterday. That was D. Rose in past couple of months.

Foyth can also play on right back position instead of S. Aurier, that is position he is playing in national squad of Argentina. Lad had his bad moments in the past like getting red card against Bournemouth, bad pass which lead to conceding goal against Arsenal after great performance in the game until then etc..., but generally he is much less prone to silly mistakes than D. Sanchez and I would always give him chance before Colombian player.

I'm not sure how Mourinho is going to use him on right back or in center of defense, but I'm confident he will not make mistake whatever he decide because lad is better than both Aurier and Sanchez.

Other two players KWP and Lo Celso who had chance to impress coach failed. KWP didn't cover right back position good. Is it because lack of help of team mate who played right on midfield, or because he was bad is open question. Way how he and Rose run into center of defense leaving plenty of space on both sides is leading to easy passes to flanks which result in 100% chance and all of that for reason to be behind player who tries to block possible shot (behind his back). I don't see purpose for that. Alderweireld, Foyth, Dier, Sissoko should be enough to cover central parts of defense.

Lo Celso was involved in Spurs goal, but I don't think he played to good to justify his high price. I don't think Mourinho was impressed with him either.

Mousa Sissoko showed once more why he is not good in attack. Way how he destroyed big chance on 1:1 in first half can be compared only with Sunday league move. His agonized pass when he was alone in front of Neuer ended in goal out while couple of team mates watched that in disbelief and shock. Mourinho didn't hide his emotions after that too. He attempted to kick advertisement in helpless fury near out line.

Conclusion is that Bayern was much better in not so important game, Spurs were much better in defense than in 2:7 home defeat. Game showed Foyth on Mourinho's radar clearly. When we evaluate Foyth we must have in mind he was injured and how many games he didn't play this season. When consider all of that we can't be unhappy with his performance. We might lose the game but gain good defender for future!
