Tottenham won local London rival Brentford with result of 3:1 after very dominant performance. I am finally satisfied with what I saw today and that were players doing everything they canon the pitch with maximum effort, high press, always moving, trying to create and create chances and scoring goals.
Beginning of the game was not good, Brentford scored from first attack cross from our right side happen, ball came to Mbuemo who made first touch shoot on goal and ram it inside the net. It was mastery against which you can't do much to prevent goal, but just to remove your hat and say "well done". After that Tottenham took total control of this game, Spurs attacked in waves creating chance after chance, exchanging ball fast, playing and moving smart, recovery ball after losing on superb way. In such game player of the match James Maddison intercepted pass stormed inside the box shoot, but his effort was deflected, but just toward Dom Solanke who made tap in goal for 1:1. Maddison, Kulusevski, Johnson, Son all had chances to score, but we need to wait a little bit for second goal. It happen when Johnson received ball inside the box, noticed opponents is doing sliding tackle trying to block, skillfully moved ball little forward and fired shot which ended in lower part of away corner of goal near the post. He looked like serious player in that situation. It was Olie Watkins style of goal from Euro. Spurs didn't stop, but continue to attack and make chances, hunger for goals was there, but couldn't put in another goal. Away side had one chance after Vicario lost possession near goal, but he then saved not so good shoot. There was one more but it ended with not the best shoot which Italian saved easily.
Second half brought same picture attacks in waves, chances, but no goal. I won't describe all of them here because there were too many of them! I will do it with just one because it was super piece of play of Madders ,I think Udogie and Kulusevski. Lovely short passes on set up defence, Deki stormed inside the box, head big chance, but goalie saved his effort which went in away corner with stretched leg! Shame it was not a goal, that would be Ajax prime style of goal. Other side had two chances both saved in superb way by Vicario. One Mbuemo shoot from dead chance when he was inside the box with a lot of space and time but Vicario made marvelous save. Other chance was free header from 5-6 meters which our super Italian saved and deflected it away from two Brentford players who were close to him despite ball hit the ground and bounced off it which is the most difficult ball to save for goalkeepers!
Vicario made one more mistake when he ran out toward edge of the box to catch the ball, but dropped it and then played the ball with hand, but referee didn't notice that. He was not last man in defense so it would be free kick and yellow not red and VAR didn't intervene. Then near the end guests went in dangerous attack, but Bissouma who came in instead of excellent Bentancur made sliding tackle and sent ball toward Romero who send brilliant ball forward toward Son who ran in counter looked where is Madders and sent him superb ball and Madders chipped it over keeper inside the net for 3:1 and game over for Brentford. He removed shirt, get yellow card and did his dart celebration with Son! All could see how much this goal means to him. I hope this is sign of return in form big time!
My observation of the game is this. Midfield of Bentancur, Kulusevski and Maddison is the best Spurs have at the moment. It's a pity Bentancur will get suspension and will not play in next league games. Kulusevski is sending very nice through balls, but when he is in chance he gets easily blocked. He need to work on how to avoid block when player is in front of him. Son didn't score one big chance when he was alone in front of goalie with player behind him. He tried to go around goalie and it didn't go well. However Korean made 6 or 7 chances, ran without stopping and had 2 assists today so I can say he had good game. Solanke scored, was good like all others.
Congratulations to everyone involved, I liked what I've seen very much. This is how football should be played! I also liked that I hit correct score in my previous article on Scorum platform. Let's hope Tottenham players can repeat this kind of performance against top 10 teams starting from Manchester United next weekend.
Meanwhile enjoy with Tim Winstone's banger: (tune chasing the Sun) "James Maddison plays down at White Heart Lane and he loves the darts, he's our number 10 and he's done it again Tottenham superstar!" I hope this is return in form of James Maddison BIG TIME!
