England Premier League season if over. Spurs finished it on 5th place with early exits from domestic cups and yet another time miss 3 chances to win long waiting trophy. When I turn around I must say we finished it on better place than I thought before it started. After selling Harry Kane I thought we were be somewhere between 10th and 12th place. However flying start, the best in last 60 years raised expectations and eyes were if not on title on top four. Unfortunately referee Michael Oliver and FA_PGMOL ruined us with two horrific games vs Chelsea and Arsenal on our home ground. Injuries and Asian and African cup also had their part in our falling on the table. It was season of ups and downs during which according to expected goals we were better than other side in like 20 games, we were even in 1 and worse in 17 games. It's completely understandable when we see what kind of players we are bringing in.
While we had problems backward in the past it seems Van de Ven, Vicario, Porro and Udogie fixed that area and I'd say all those players including Dragusin who came in later are good hits. However when it comes to attack it's shocking what kind of players we are bringing in. We brought in Richarlison two years ago and continue with bad signings like Johnson or Werner. I can't rate Solomon because player played very little during injury. With Perisic going out of action we became very limited in forward line. Worth mentioning like good signing was Maddison. He was awesome in first 10 games of the season, but after that injury he's not same player. Big hopes and lot of eyes including mine were on our midfield and particularly on Rodrigo Bentancur. I was so happy when he came back from long injury, but I must admit he's struggling just like Maddison. I thought our midfield of Bissouma, Bentancur and Maddison will be the best in league, but that was so far away from truth. This trio didn't click at all.
Main region where we need improvements is attack. Johnson and Kulusevski are not consistent. First is missing to many chances, second can be one of the most frustrating player to watch, but also man of the match, but he's inconsistent. Werner is also notorious for missing big chances. Add to that limited striker without first touch whose link-up play was bellow average most of the season and Son who is not getting younger and you have full picture. If we want to fight for the title we need better players a part from Son who need to have substitute of high level.
Players Spurs are connected with like Callum Hudson Odoi, Solanke, Gallagher are not those who rise us up to next level. If we sign them I'll see that like big underachieving and even helping Chelsea by founding them to bring serious player like Olise. If I am in charge of Spurs they would bring in Santigao Giminez from Feyenoord, Olise from Crystal Palace and Mitoma from Brighton. With that we would have 3 forward line ups which would frighten any opponent:
Son - Santiago Gimenez - Olise
Mitoma - Richarlison - Johnson
Solomon - Veliz/Scarlett - Kuluševski.
Son and Deki could play in the middle of attack if we run out of options. That would be something. Mitoma as rotation or one half option with Son on left with Solomon as emergency option, Santiago in center with Richarlison as backup with Scarlett and Veliz like emergency options and Olise with Johnson and Deki as backups. That would be attack for me. Club also need cover for left central back, defensive midfielder and goalkeeper for case Vicario got injury.
That would be for me good transfer window of club wanting to win things with statement signings. Will Daniel Levy, ENIC and Tavistock do that ? No they will not because they are more into building hotels than making winning football squad and bring trophies to the club. They should know that trophies bring in more international and local fans which lead toward more selling of club merchandise, bigger audience for games, bigger prices for our players etc... We covered South Korea with Son, why not cover Japan with Mitoma and Mexico with Gimenez ?
