It's no secret that last season was not successful for Tottenham Hotspur. North London side ended on 7th place of England Premier League table, got eliminated by Everton in FA cup, Dinamo Zagreb in UEFA league and lost final of League Cup against Manchester City. There were some good moments like winning against Manchester United 1:6, winning against Manchester City and Arsenal with 2:0 and against Leicester 2:4. When you can win Champion, FA cup winner, local arch rival and one of two biggest clubs in England that means you have high quality. Harry Kane winning of Golden Boot and Playmaker award were also great achievement.
Despite I think 2-3 new players are needed in Tottenham I don't think present squad lack of quality. I think main problem with Tottenham is lack of motivation. Above wins shows that when they have high motivation to play opponent is in big trouble. On the other side when they lack motivation opponent can run over them like steam roller.
Interim manager Mason stepped down, main star of club Harry Kane expressed his frustration about how things are going and main question now is who is the best candidate to sit in this hot seat ? Names like Erik ten Hag, Mauricio Pochettino, Graham Potter and Antonio Conte are main names connecting with Spurs job.
I think Hag's Ajax is playing nice and exciting football, he is strong in working with young players, feel like he could make Spurs players run proper on field, but not sure if he could replicate in London what he did in Amsterdam. Brighton under Graham Potter plays nice football and create chances, he is also good, but I can't know if he would turn Tottenham into top four club. Spurs fans are emotional about ex coach Pochettino and a lot of them want him back, but I didn't forget how poor Spurs were under him near his ending. That was hard to watch and looked like players are not playing for him anymore. He also just failed to win title with PSG club which have 5x more budget than first under it in France. He also lost a lot of games against top clubs in France. He eliminated Barcelona and Bayern from Champions League, but I am not sure his arrival could be big success.
Now we come to Antonio Conte. He's great coach, he just won title with Inter and turned player who previously tripped over ball Lukaku into beast in attack. He is big motivator and his dressing room words hit and attack players. He is also type who will complain and protest on line every time when he see someone under-performing or not doing what he should do on pitch. He's not tolerating slacking. I can't escape from feeling he's the right man for this job.
Here is what other people say about him:
Italy defender Leonardo Bonucci singled out Conte for his role in motivating the players and creating a unified team environment at Euro 2016, commenting that the players had given their coach the nickname The Godfather, for the way he made them want to listen when he spoke.[126] Pirlo has also remarked approvingly of Conte's man-management and motivational skills. In his autobiography he recalled how Conte's introductory speech to the Juventus squad left a significant impression on him: "He needed only one speech, with many simple words, to conquer both me and Juventus. He had fire running through his veins and he moved like a viper. 'This squad, dear boys, is coming off two consecutive seventh-place finishes. It's crazy. It's shocking. I am not here for this, so it's time to stop being so crap.'... When Conte speaks, his words assault you. They crash through the doors of your mind. I've lost count of the number of times I've said: 'Hell, Conte said something really spot-on again today.'
He doesn't even need to change this speech much "This squad, dear boys, is coming off two consecutive seventh-place finishes. It's crazy. It's shocking. I am not here for this, so it's time to stop being so crap.'..." LoL
He can also implement various tactics, adjust it toward skills of his players, play in various formations etc... He recuperate Eriksen from football death, even Alexis Sanchez lookes like player under him again. I have every reason to believe he could turn Winks into Seedorf prime if he joins Tottenham. I dare not to think what he could turn H.Kane into when he made such beast from Lukaku... I can't escape feeling that under him I'm going to see Tottenham player playing with full passion and effort in every game. He's not only into top 4, what he wants is title!
He quit Inter job, there is no fee to be payed to his current club like 10 million to PSG for Pochettino or for ten Hag. I hope Tottenham owner Daniel Levy will do right thing now because in football coach is everything. With right coach all will be good if not immediately then after some time. I have no doubt Conte is right one for this job. Levy should be quick because copy & pasters from Manchester United are looking toward that direction too... Don't let few quids make this GOAT escape you Mr. Levy! Go get him!
