According to Sky Sports, Argentine referee Nestor Pitana will be in charge of the 2018 FIFA World Cup final between France and Croatia on Sunday. He'll become the second Argentine referee to take charge of a World Cup final after Horacio Elizondo did it first in the infamous 2006 final which featured Zinedine Zidane's headbutt. It will be Pitana's fifth game to ref in Russia.
Pitana, who turned 43 on June 17, was also in charge of the World Cup opener between Russia and Saudi Arabia, and he's already reffed both Croatia and France at the tournament. Les Bleus beat Uruguay 2-0 in the quarter-final with Pitana the middle man and Croatia dropped Denmark on penalties in the Round of 16 with him in charge.
It's been a busy World Cup for Pitana as he's handed out a total of 12 yellow cards and two penalties. There have been 28.25 fouls per game in Pitana's matches.
Pitana, a former actor who now works as a gym teacher, started refereeing in 2007. The 2018 edition is the second World Cup of his career. He was also in charge of four matches at the 2014 tournament, including France's 1-0 quarter-final defeat to Germany.
