The Colombian James Rodriguez has again come under criticism in Germany. His club, Bayern Münich, has chained a dreadful streak of 4 games without winning. And one of the great defendants of this bad performance is James, who has returned to the eye of the hurricane after some statements by Lothar Matthäus. The German legend kept nothing and said the following about James:
"He feels offended when he does not play in the starting line. He then leaves the starter and plays as if he were not part of the team. Players must get off their pedestal and assume they have to be in the service of the club. Bayern is a world-class club and players have to be satisfied to play for such a team."
I am glad that someone finally dared to tell the truth about James and there is no doubt that Matthäus is as outraged as James' attitude on and off the field. To all this we must add the Colombian nonconformist with his current coach Niko Kovac, who apparently questioned in the dressing room to say that "this is not Eintracht Frankfurt", referring to the former Kovac team and hinting that he is not trained to lead a big club like Bayern Münich.
This is a scene that is far from the image that the people of James Rodriguez have: of a good person, educated, disciplined, professional, who does not break even a plate. However, this type of situations that do not stop repeating regardless of the club where you play, let us see the real James Rodriguez, which is far from what we thought of him.
It can not be a coincidence that for every team that passes James Rodriguez has problems with each of their coaches. It already happened to Ranieri in his passage through Monaco, and happened with Zidane at Real Madrid and even with Ancelotti in the short space of time they shared at Bayern. In each of these cases his coaches saw that James had no place in the team's starting lineup, but this was something that the Colombian clearly did not understand.
I do not doubt for a second of the innate talent of James Rodriguez, I think he has a left leg educated and is one of the best passers in world football. But I am also convinced that he is an irregular player with little mental strength. He is able to play fully for two months and then disappear for the rest of the campaign. It happened to him at Real Madrid when after a first dream season, in his second year he dropped level and was not able to adapt to the new circumstances of the team with changes of coach. Sometimes I think James is a player who lacks character in the decisive moments; He has undeniable talent but he needs to take that step to be a global superstar. Immediately the semifinals of the 2014-2015 Champions League vs Juventus came to mind at the Bernabéu when he clearly felt desperate and overwhelmed by the under pressure scenario he was in; or in the semifinals of Champions last season also at the Bernabéu, when he decided to throw the ball to the side when a Real Madrid player was lying in the dream just in the best moment of Bayern, in a clear demonstration that he did not understand the times of the game and what that match meant for his team. So great was Heynckess' annoyance with this action from James that he did not hesitate to take him off the field after this.
The truth and to hear about James makes me want to vomit, because I hate the repulsive and obsessive Colombian sports journalism. Honestly I am disgusted to hear Colombian journalists talking about James because they paint him as the best player that has existed when it is not like that. They insist on an imaginary media campaign against James when the guilty party does not play is himself because of his irregularity, bad attitude and unprofessionalism. James is not a saint, he has a very bad attitude in which he believes his star status and thinks he is above any coach and that he must play by decree. All this without mentioning his taste for the party. You want us to believe that the problem is the coaches who have a war against James, but the sad reality is that the problem is himself.
I must refer to the Colombian's passing for Real Madrid because it is a faithful reflection of this. From Colombia they were outraged by the substitution of James cataloging it as an injustice against James; Without understanding that if he was not a starter for Zidane it was because he simply did not deserve it, he was not better than the other midfielders of the merengue team. And they can not say that he did not have opportunities with Zidane, because the French gave everyone opportunities but James did not know how to take advantage of them with mediocre performances.
And everyone thought that now James at Bayern being a starter could prove how wrong they were at Real Madrid. But although it is true that his level has risen, we have seen his talent at a drop in Germany. The reality is that James is a footballer who, after his stint at Real Madrid, raised the fumes to his head and caused a whole nation to elevate his feelings of superiority and pride to levels never before seen. As I said before, it makes me sick to hear James' defenders defend him with meaningless arguments. The truth is that because of the fans themselves James is overrated. Or when they have seen James throw the team on his shoulder in an important game? When have you seen him appear in a decisive match? The sad reality is that the last big match of James Rodriguez was in the 8th Finals of the 2014 World Cup vs. Uruguay, where I can not deny that he stood out above all others.
But I feel the Colombian is still living on the income of that World Cup and He does not accept that if he wants to be really big he must earn it with work and professionalism. If he does, I do not doubt that, along with his undeniable talent, he will be able to find a place again among the best in the world. Otherwise, James will continue wandering from club to club without being able to devote himself, fighting with the coaches and believing himself more than he is; Without understanding that the real problem is himself and always has been.
