Varane is an excellent passer and has an average pass accuracy of 89 percent in the La Liga

It's already looking to be a good summer for Manchester United in the transfer market.

The Red Devils are close to sealing a deal for long-term target Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund.

Fans, on the other hand, are desperate to see it done quickly.

Though United are clean through to land Sancho — they've been tailing the Englishman since last summer — it's the prospect of landing Real Madrid strongman Raphael Varane that has fans on the edge.

Varane has been reportedly linked with a move to join the Premier League giants since the transfer windows were flung open.

Varane is an expert at reading games and has been likened to former French defender Lillian Thuram

Reports from the rumour factory claimed United had lodged a €40m plus add-ons offer for the star but saw it rejected by Real Madrid.

Real Madrid were said to have knocked down United's bid because it was millions short of the €70m price tag they'd slapped on Varane.

However, these claims have been rejected by football journalist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

According to Romano, there's been no deal between United and Real for Varane so far.

Speaking on his Twitch channel, Romano claimed that no bid had been made or rejected.

However, he added that talks are still ongoing between the football heavyweights.

With an imposing 6-foot-3 figure, Varane is a threat in the air

With Sancho set to come through the United's doors in few days, it's hard to rule out a similar event for Varane.

Though no bids are on the table yet for the French guard, it won't come as a surprise if United snatch him away from Real Madrid.

United's manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is starting to get the hang of things in his backline after an impressive second-place finish the last season.

United boasted the fifth-best defence in the Premier League.

Nonetheless, if they manage to add Varane to their defensive ranks this summer, they'll be watertight in the new season.

Meanwhile, United begin the new Premier League campaign against Marcelo Bielsa's Leeds at Old Trafford on Saturday 14 August.
